Perhaps Nick's parent's have been supporting him or lending him money and he wants to pay them back.

I read that his dad is a billionaire, if true Nick's winnings would be a drop in the ocean.

Nick's dad is not a billionaire, he's been recently made CEO of a well known high Street bookies (working his way up over years) with a nice paypacket as you would expect for a CEO.
