View Full Version : Jack Why is Jack hated so much?

Gusto Brunt

I have never understood the hate for Jack.

I have to admit, he has never annoyed me, and in fact he often makes me laugh.:joker:

Who cares if he wants - or expected - to win. They all wanna win. Who wouldn't want £150,000???????

Don't buy that **** that they're in there for personal development and to make friends. That is just ****.

So Jack's overweight - no reason not to like him.

He has mood swings - but they've never been nasty like Danny the Coward.

He's been arrogant sometimes - no more than any of the others.

So, please, can someone, please list the reasons why so many people don't like Jack and want him out.

Thanks. :)

Vicky.

No idea tbh. I don't actually mind him. I find the mindset that some seem to have of 'oh he is desperate to win, lets devastate him' really rather cruel too :(

He makes me laugh, I see him as a young lad that is a bit petulant, but is entertaining without meaning to be. For me that's much better than the usual contrived rubbish

Seems there is no 'hate', and a few who think Jack's not all that bad. ;)

I still enjoy watching him sure he has a grumpty side but I find this funny.I think his downfall started after he went OTT when nominated by Simon.

Can't see any reason to hate hm.
Yes he is grumpy, he moans a bit, he is a bit bossy at times, but at least he is portraying his true self. Not fussed on his language at times.
I find him one of the funnier housemates, nothing contrived, just his blundering his way through the experience.

he comes across as a self entitle grumpy angry t**t who does little..bosses people around ... holds a grudge and requires different standards of behavior from people depending on how well he likes or dislikes them

Hates a strong emotion...I don't hate Jack; I don't even dislike Jack. I just find him a bit boring and immature, though I can forgive his immaturity because of his age.

I wouldn't want Jack to win but it would be a great shame if he came out of the house to boos. Being boring doesn't warrant him being demonized.

I just don't get the point of him. Why is he working in McDonald's? That's what concerns me the most - he doesn't seem to want to do things in life. There's nothing stopping him getting a few A Level's down and heading off to University.

I definitely don't hate him for being fat, like most would suggest. I blame his parents for that matter.

It's all rather pathetic. People assumed on the way in he would be the Mr Nice Guy series bore and hated him for that, which I understood, but then it emerged that he is anything but and in fact his pathetic aggressive outbursts are actually quite hilarious, and he is still hated.

The poor kid can't win either way and I am honestly convinced deep down it's because he's fat. The fact of the matter is he's a much better housemate than what he could have ended up being and for that he needs to be applauded :clap1:

So people are "pathetic" for holding a view that you happen not to?

To be quite honest, I'd love for a series where insults towards other forum members on the basis of their opinions isn't the norm. I won't hold my breath, though.

There are definitely some people who bring his weight into it, but that's certainly not the sole reason for the dislike of him. I can say that with absolute certainty because he's my least favourite and his weight has nothing to do with that.

I dislike him because his tendency to be miserable and moody pisses me off, as does his, frankly, nasty attitude that rears it's head when people dare to nominate him. Then there's his role in the unbearably smug Not-So Fantastic Four (and yes, the other members of that little gang annoy me too).

I just think he's a crap housemate and I get zero enjoyment out of him, and it's a fairly weak response to fall back on the "Oh, it's only because he's overweight" thing. No, it's not. You clearly think he's a good housemate, but that's just your opinion (as opposed to the "fact" you presented it as). Some others quite obviously feel differently and are entitled to do so without being branded "pathetic" or the suggestion that they're prejudiced against his weight.

I actually genuinely wasn't insulting any other forum members, I think the hate is receives is over the top, unjustified and ultimately, pathetic.

There may be some people who dislike him for the way he acts, and that is fine, what I'm addressing here is a collective shift (or rather actually, non shift) in attitudes towards him. The majority of people on this forum on launch night and in the first few days took a disliking towards him because it was assumed (and understandably so) that he would be the Mr Nice Guy that floated through to the final and didn't offer a lot to the show, and would be popular outside of these parts amongst the general public because of it. Then when it transpired that actually that wasn't to be the case, the same majority continued to hate on him. Therefore the poor kid can't win either way can he? Either he plays the nice guy we all assumed he would be and he'd be hated, or he acts normally as he is doing now and he's still hated. Quite frankly I think the only reason for that is for the most part because he is fat. Sure, not everyone will think that, but I think subconsciously that definitely plays a role or else why could he not win either way?

I hate him because you like him.

I was beginning to wonder whether this entire series would pass without us having made digs at one another, but alas it seems that's not what you want.

I'm glad I have that much of an impact on you :cheer2:

Fair enough, I assumed you were generalising all people who have an issue with Jack, apologies if I misunderstood. :)

And you do raise a good point about him being between a rock and a hard place, I do agree that there are some people who were always going to dislike him regardless.

I kind of feel sorry for him. I think if the house this series had been more fun then the likes of Jack, Sam & Simon would have been seen in a different light.
I understand Jack can be bitchy & grumpy but no more than anyone else in that house.
I find him quite immature but that's about it.
Yes, he should have taken the car but at that time he was perceived as the favourite to win, so it was sensible to stay in there.
I just don't get why he is hated so much

I'm inclined to agree with Mr Wong here which is a lame reason for all the Jack hate and IMO shows up the hater. I like Jack and I feel sorry for him. I don't think he's arrogant, he always seemed rather bemused/thrilled by the taste of popularity he had. Sure he has faults and he bitches a bit, who doesnt?

He does get a bit hurt by nominations but then thats understandable no one wants to feel that people around them don't like them. Harry and Marc both say they don't care then she goes into a strop and verbally beats up Nick and Maec has to analise every aspect of reasons given. Fact is the reasons are the persons own, its not for Marc to say whether they are valid or not.

I don't think he will win now but I much rather see him win than a lot of the others.
I did like Joel but I'm going off him a bit with how far he was up Helen and I didn't like the smug smile when Mcquirrick (sp?) Told Him he was a star and praised him for being a Tory.

Sometimes I don't find him too bad, but it seems that he can't deal with being nominated which is in bad taste because it didn't go his way. Again when he heard his public reaction, I'm sure he was expecting to get cheers which is why he sat there sulking. I don't get any enjoyment out of watching that kind of behaviour, it's boring and shows a sense of self-righteousness.

I disliked him and Danny the most, right from the start, and I can see that no one seems to have same reasons as I do. I was quite annoyed that he seemed to be so popular with public as he was entering the house, cause he gave me a vibe of someone I wouldn't wanna have to sit next to on a bus, let alone watch him for the duration of BB.

In his VT he kept on about sticking for his friends, and against girls, as "bros over hoes" or some such, how as soon as someone gets a girlfriend it turns into disaster - and frankly, with history of over 2000 years of undisputed rule of abrahamic religions, someone blaming another disaster on some poor lass is bit overdone.

He didn't do himself any favors once in the house either, when in obvious set up he was given three immunities, and then out of four nominated housmates, he chose to save Christian - the blankiest blank of them all, basically leaving three ladies to fight amongst them selves. He even said he had least of a connection with Christian, and claimed that losing Sarah would be devastating for the house, but I guess Christian just had right set of gonads and was thus saved.

He was also always the second one (first one being Danny) to start gossiping about how wrong and terrible other housemates are - I hate gossiping so, yeah...

He also never stopped bytching about Nick spending too much time with Jade, and then with Harry, (as if it's normal to judge a guy you only know for 7 days as your friend who has changed because of a girl!?!) he never was able to accept what either of the three of them has said either about nature of their relationship or about themselves, he was annoyed by Jade claiming to be polyamorous, and insisted to call her "bedhopper", he kept complaining about Harry being naked - what? How in a world does that change his prospects? It's in no way, shape or form his concern. He kept acting confused and almost insulted about Harry saying she has a wife, even tho she explained exactly what she meant by that, and again, it had nothing to do with him.

So pretty much, he never did anything I'd find endearing but he did quite a few things that have annoyed me beyond belief.

Most of these Danny also exhibited but he felt more free to be a jacka$$ cause his good looks tend to obscure large portion of it. Danny was quite obnoxious with Sarah, and openly, her only fault was that she actually liked him, yet when they were both up for eviction, she got booted out, and he stayed in witch is both ludicrous and among top 5 reasons "why aliens won't talk to us"

He's never bothered me that much. I guessed even from launch night he was going to be a bit shouty and stroppy at times because he kept talking over everybody saying he was taking the green podium but I wouldn't hate him just solely for being a bit of a grump.

Times he has annoyed me is when he was over the top angry with Simon, and how he behaved in that whole situation with them watching secret footage and telling Chloe what they saw. It clearly showed Jack being angry and shouting at the screen at what Marc said on screen about Chloe but then just because everybody else decided to just focus on Simon he went along with that and was like "oh Marc didn't really say anything bad about you, he said things in a nice way" and focused all his rage on Simon. The same when Simon nominated Eileen, he was standing up shouting going bonkers at him even though he himself also nominated Eileen for a second week after saying before that he regretted it and and wouldn't. Just came across a bit hypocritical and also a bit of a sheep who let his anger out on an easier target like Simon.

Also last night on BOTS I saw a clip of him shouting a lot at Harry for reading their hotel guest book thing because BB said they were not allowed, he either tried to grab it roughly from her hands or else actually closed the book thing on her hands and I just found it a bit much.

His reactions to being nominated also aren't great...

Actually the more I'm remembering these things the easier I can see why people might dislike him..

But anyways, generally he doesn't bother me that much and I wouldn't say I hated him, just a few things really that annoyed me a bit in the earlier weeks mostly. I don't find the fact that he thought he was really popular or the fact he really wants to win a problem at all.

Your theory about it being his weight doesn't really hold much water.

Josie was overweight and won. Alison Hammond was quite well liked as a housemate and she was huge and she has made a decent career on the back of BB.

He was great in the Hotel task.

Just shows he's not just a grubby dressing gown. He looks smart dressed up and carries himself well.

He has good inter-personal skills, even when John and Charley gave him a bad time.

No wonder he is a manager in real life. :)
