View Full Version : So today I came out as bisexual

Will.
23-07-2015, 10:18 AM
Random convo with my mum in the pool and she asked what I was, and I said I was bisexual, I've known for a long a time I'm bi, had girlfriends but no boyfriends as of yet.

My mum knew which girls I fancied, so the first question she asked was which boys do I fancy? Made me laugh.

Wasn't anything emotional at all, in fact I don't think it could have been more normal, it was liked she asked what did you have for breakfast!

Jack1806 will be proud.

aww well done! dont be so sure tho lol. i said i was straight at 14, then I thought I was bi, and now i've realised I'm a massive dyke.

Thing is, you're never really 100% sure I think. I believe we can fall for anyone. Good on you though, that's very brave of you. I'm still not out to my family yet and I'm 21. But I've met a girl I really like and I hope to tell them soon.

The covo I just had with my mum

"You do know you can tell me anything"

Me: "well I have now"

"Yes but anything, you know by now I'm a very open minded person."

Me: "Even if I've murdrered someone"

"Yes anything"

Me: "Have you ever been a lesbian before"

My mum gives a smirky smile and walks off.

Well done  I wish I would pluck up the courage to tell my mum but I find it way too much of an awful scary idea (I know she would accept it and stuff but I'd struggle to be able to tell her) Anyway, your a year older then me so who knows maybe this time next year.

Good for you!

I'm 19 and have known I'm gay for quite a while now, I still haven't come out to my family though. I was thinking of doing it before I go to uni.

I just hope it lifts a weight off my shoulders like others say it does. I know I have accepting parents, but I hope it gives me confidence afterwards. It's a pretty big deal.

No I don't think so at all a girl in my year came out as lesbian at thirteen and she pretty much just got accepted by everyone. I'm just nervous to tell my mum because even though I know she'll accept me it's just almost as if I can't get the words out.

I suppose, but then I've read things about people knowing they liked the same sex when they were 4/5 years old.

It's good that your comfortable with it at such an age though, there are probably tons of people trying to conceal who they really are, and even end up taking it to the grave with them.

Liam-

It takes a lot of guts to come out at any age, but even more so at a young age I feel, I'm 20 and I still haven't told my family, even though I'm pretty sure they know.

Very happy for you Will!!!

My 14 year old came to me this spring to tell me she was Bi...
It only strengthened our relationship with her being able to share something about herself with me. I hope the same happens with you and your Mom.

Also, being able to have confidence in knowing yourself as a person is very important and empowering. Sharing that with others can only strengthen you.

I've known I was straight since I was 4.. not sure why knowing you were gay would be any different

Though I have to say, I'm uncomfortable with being straight because I knew at such at an early age that it was something I had to keep secret and still do. I'm 24 now and never really 'came out' as straight, although if people ask I say I am but I still feel uncomfortable with it now... I was meant to be gay I think

Well that's why it's different for gay people. :(

There is still a stigma surrounding homosexuality, and sadly it's different for gay people in the fact that a lot of people try to hide it in fear of many things. Not being accepted by family/friends, retaining masculinity/femininity, etc.

I'd imagine there are loads of people who have convinced themselves otherwise that they really believe they're not Gay/Bi/Lesbian, but that's the world we live in. There's still a long way to go in terms of acceptance.

Apparently there are more Bi men not out compared to gay men, wonder why this is?

"They’re out there. They’re just not out. Recent research shows that just over a quarter of bisexual people are open about their sexuality. These days, there are probably more bi people hiding who they are than gay people.

Keeping quiet about your bisexual desires also seems pretty ****. Research conducted by gay, lesbian and bisexual charity Stonewall reveals that bi guys are more likely to have attempted suicide than gay men. They are nearly twice as likely to have self-harmed."

First of all...YAY...your mum is a fabulous woman!

I don't think so many men come out as being bi because they fear rejection from their girlfriend/wife.

My husband is bi and when he eventually plucked up the courage to tell his ex, she walked. He only felt comfortable telling me when I told him I liked bi men. His reaction was :cheer2:
