Happily, thanks to the Internet, this is going to follow the bitch around for the rest of her life. If she didn't want the dog there are plenty of agencies that would have taken him for re-homing.

We are supposed to be the superior species, yes? When you own a pet you have a duty of care because we are supposed to be the superior species. By your reasoning Alex, everyone should be able to just torture and kill a dog with no consequences because sometimes dogs bite. It makes no sense.

no, i never said people should do horrible things. i'm just saying we shouldn't be so shocked when we see evidence that humans are not so superior after all.

Hayley Cowan, 22, has been jailed for four months and banned from keeping animals for life following the incident last October.

This girl lives about a mile away from me....such a short sentence is pretty appalling due to the severity of the torture this animal suffered...

Murder in this country is not taken seriously full stop.

So sadly we'll not see people that murder animals being given longer sentences until we actually punish people that murder Humans first.

Not everyone who commits a crime is mental , just plain evil! She'll probably be out in a couple of weeks, and unfortunatley it will be down to the neighbours to make sure she never keeps another pet because the legal system doesn't check. The sentencing for animal cruelty in this country is pathetic.

I can't believe you are so cold and dismissive about the treatment this poor dog suffered.
It's people like you who make me realise that animals are preferable to people in lots of ways.

The woman who attacked the man on the train deserved her punishment
The matador deserved his punishment from the bull
The 'hunter' deserved the reaction for killing Cecil..

Why is this woman the only one singled out for sympathy, is it due to the fact he was just a dog?

Ammi always strives to see the good in people. Always. I don't recall her being any different with the train/matador/cecil stories. She's a very understanding and caring person who always tries to see both sides.

I haven't said she doesn't, in the recent threads discussing attackers and killers of animals this is the first to suggest that the aggressor may need help, I just wondered why this one.
It was not in any way a personal slur, there's no need to put a slant on it.

....hmmm, I don't really understand what you're trying to say/what I'm being asked ...I don't believe that I made any comment at all in the hunter thread and I don't believe that there has been a 'punishment' yet either for his actions...I also made no comment in the matador thread..(and no punishment applied either..)... and the only reference I made to that at all was in another thread..(the train thread..)...to use an analogy of, if poking, prodding, taunting someone or something much more physically powerful than the instigator then they're going to probably come off the worse for wear...but those are both fight or flight reactions and not punishments...so no punishment to comment on there either and I have no idea whether charges are pending against the female involved, only that charges have been dropped against the male....

..so maybe you're asking me to comment on the thoughts of others and not my own with that question but then I'm confused with that as well as I'm struggling to find a post where any empathy has been expressed so that could be applied...and it wouldn't be something for me to comment on anyway/why other people think as they do on topics....

..anyways, no matter, it's not important, just quite confusing is all...

I didn't suggest you had commented on any of the threads I mentioned however the general consensus is that aggressors/killers are wrong...
That was my whole point, your post is the first to suggest there may have been an underlying reason for the action.
This woman was poking and prodding something more powerful than herself, the dog could have defended itself and attacked, it didn't and died.
There was no fight or flight reaction she just killed her dog, what can be done to help in this instance other than preventing her harming other animals?

The woman's a cow that deserves a longer sentence and that's all there is to say on this topic.

I'll never understand why some people see stories like this and think that they're justified in saying vile **** about the guilty party. How does it make them any better than the guilty party? Cruelty doesn't justify cruelty, it's just hypocritical.

That's how emotion gets you especially if you're an animal lover. I don't see how me thinking she's a **** makes me as bad as her.

I'm doubting anyone would act on anything said, it's just a knee jerk reaction with words.
If you put your dog/kid/parent in any situation and imagine how you would react if they were hurt/killed by someone.
It's just justice anyone wants ideally.

Well said Kizzy, people are pissed off because she was given four months, how is that punishment ? she will be out in half that time, there should be stiffer penalties for animal cruelty, and yes people who care get angry, and rightly so.

Animals are usually "destroyed" (a nice little euphemism for killed for people who can't bring themselves to word it as it is) when they attack people. Humans who murder animals seem to get a slap on the wrist by comparison.

Not to mention I don't subscribe to the belief that animals have the capacity to be evil. Animal attacks are indeed terrible, but the suggestion that they share the same mentality as humans who attack and take lives and compare the situations doesn't really work as far as I'm concerned.

I'm not sure that everyone who abuses animals needs mental healthcare. Some people are just abusers. I always say this on threads of this kind, but... in the USA, animal wardens are trained to look for child abuse because one often follows the other. Also, there are many instances of people with mental health problems who get huge benefit from having, or at least having contact with, a pet. Some people are just cruel and it wouldn't surprise me to find that this woman was completely in whatever passes for 'her right mind'.

I don't see it that way because , at least someone from her family, friends, or even neighbours would have seen any signs to indicate such, and seen that in her persona, and I am sure that the dog thus would not have been have returned to her. No, imo she is just a cruel b**ch.

I feel compassion for the animal, I just don't feel the need to pour venom in my words just to get approval from other people.

Also, I don't get into a strop about anything, not so much that i'd wish harm on someone. Perhaps you're confusing me with another member. perhaps you should actually read who is posting what before you throw accusations about?

I read that with a lump in my throat, poor dog. No animal deserves to suffer but to suffer at the hands of an 'owner' makes me feel sick, dogs literally devote themselves to their owners and the poor thing won't have even understood what the horrible bitch was up to.

4 months should have been 4 years imo, she is a murderer. I hope her neighbours are savvy and shop her if she attempts to own an animal, too.
