Homeshare : Very Old People and a young person : Great idea

A real Old Man
who did not want a nursing home,
now has a Male Nurse
who was not able to find a home
due to China putting up London prices etc.,
lives upstairs, low costing.
North West London.

His son lives 200 miles away
is so happy that a younger person now
stays with his old dad.


Spending around 10 Hours a week
as a companionship and help.


Expected to be rolled out all over the UK soon.

And he is on the Homeshare List
so if the old man does pass away
he can then go to another home.

I think this could be a very good idea, but there would have to be a lot of checks on the young person to make sure they are going to be good carers, also they would have to go on training courses, and safeguarding checks.

With our aging population and the cost of care homes i do think this could be a good idea, it would keep the elderly person in their own home with their possessions and memories.

It's something i would consider if i had no ties.

For the live-in Sharing service, the Agency charges both the Homeowner and the Sharer a low, monthly fee. They do not pay each other.'

So it's a win win for the agency then, they get all the money for providing...nothing.
In theory this is a lovely idea, it's a shame there isn't a charity that could provide the same service without the costs to both as it's mutually beneficial, the cost of the care could offset the cost of the room?

Good god, I imagine if this takes off though people will just cut out the middleman.

The NHS and help the aged should be all over this, it could be a solution for bed blocking if they could liaise with social care and set up live in care for the infirm from student nurses via universities?

Maybe they could get some long-term unemployed people to take a few hours out of the schedule to be visitors to the elderly. It's a sad indictment on this country that so many elderly people are lonely and abandoned. Get the unemployed volunteering to do something worthwhile, might even lead them into work.

Taking a job from a homecare worker to boot? If more are needed employ more, there are plenty needing work.
