[My daughter attends a grammar
school that she keeps wanting
to leave every time she is in
trouble for being late.
She has self-harmed twice in
one year, and has seen a
counsellor. She never helps
with housework and expects
us to take her plates out and
deliver her drinks. She swears at me,
threatens to smash my belongings
and has ripped up all the pictures
of her in our home. She has used
my toothbrush to clean the toilet.
She says that when I’m old and
in a home she wants to feed me cat food. ]

Most teenagers are difficult. I was the same. You grow out of it, I think.

Even if it is a phase, behaviour like that is not acceptable. The self harming sounds like the daughter has mental issues, but no parent should put up with being spoken to rudely or being treated like the unpaid help.

Maybe sit down with daughter, keep their gobs shut and listen to what she has to say...she is obviously unhappy for a reason.

Must be wonderful having parents that discuss them in the Guardian.
