Blackpool is grim af. It's okay for a day out. I used to go for a week every year in May from being like 6-9 with all my family because it was cheap and nearby. A lot of my family still go (seriously there's loads of us because my grandad has seven sisters a few of them quite a lot of their sons/daughters come then quite a lot of their grandkids come and even some great grandkids come now)

If you've never been Jack, you could visit York. The journey from Wales will be worth it.
You could spend 6 month's in York and still not discover all that this ancient city has to offer - from bars and bistros packed with students at nights and live music and other entertainers in the Market Square, to ancient historical sites such as the Jorvik Centre and a hundred artifact-packed museums, to the Railway Museum which houses a fascinating collection of historical trains including the famous 'Mallard', to York Minster itself (where one could spend an entire week alone) and dozens of equally ancient churches and chapels, to the 'Shambles', which is like stepping back in time. There is also York Racecourse - depending upon if you are a horseracing fan and the time of your proposed 'break'.
York is truly a magical city.

..Southwold is actually beautiful..(great fish and chips as well..)..as is most of the North Suffolk/Norfolk coastline and also the Broads, boating is quite expensive peak season but probably quite reasonable this time of year..also Derbyshire, one of my favourite counties and the added bonus of Alton Towers if you wanted to go...
...overseas..I would say for Autumn/Winter sun if that's your thing, one of the Canary Islands but Amsterdam is probably my favourite European weekend break and also obviously Paris but a weekend is never enough there because there is so much to see...Amsterdam is much more 'do-able'...Barcelona they say has a great vibe also...

Is York in Yorkshire?
Yes Ashley - it's Yorkshire's Capital City. I forgot to mention that York is where the infamous highwayman Dick Turpin was hanged and his cell and a key - which he fashioned from a bed spring and used to unlock his cell door and escape - are there to view. Watch your head if you go - the doorways are tiny.

There are so many Cherie.
'Bicis y Mas' - a lovely eatery with a good diverse menu at reasonable prices. It's on Walmgate and I recommend the curry. On the The Shambles is the 'Shambles Kitchen - which is also good value.

 Moi - for one. Blackpool is now brilliant if you are a 'Closed Down Guest House' spotter.
