View Full Version : Ebay Item From China?
Anyone ever bought anything from China on Ebay?
I bought something earlier and it's estimated to be about a month for delivery (I don't care about that) but it mentioned something about the buyer being responsible for any fee's when the item goes through customs?
Anyone had anything like this?

My mum ordered something from China about a year ago and it took about 2-3 weeks to get here. Don't recall any extra costs or anything to do with customs though.
i had ordered a bluetooth dongle like may last year and it was supposed to take at most a month to arrive
it arrived in july and didn't work.. at least it was £1

Ah that's good news, as I said I'm not caring about the delivery time just don't want to be charged.

My laptop came from China, and it look 10 days once it was shipped, it has so many stops which makes it take ages. :)

make sure you buy two/three sizes bigger than what you actually are. I bought a large and it's only a 10-12 and it only just fits. I wanted it to be baggy though :'(

I've had mixed. I bought a choker from ebay and it was from China and the postage was free and I had no problems at all
I bought a dress from ebay without looking at where it was from and I got a letter from royal mail saying I had to pay extra postage which was like £3 and the dress was smaller than I thought too.

Never buy clothing from china ebay! it will never be like the pictures they have up, bought a jumper once and it was disgusting material and two small, so it went in the bin.
its fine to buy like small things like phone cases ect.

My boyfriend did and it took 2-3 weeks and it was a real item. The customers feedback rating is usually accurate...

I agree. I've bought quite a few things from China but I've never had a 'dud' or anything extra to pay. A few times delivery did take longer than stated though, but the sellers did apowogise.

i've accidentally bought stuff from china fakers on both eBay and amazon. it's crap, and what are you going to do? pay to have it sent back to china? try to call them and speak chinese? you get screwed over.
anything shipped from china is a scam, unless you are buying a chinese brand specifically (i can't imagine why you would).
can anyone name a high quality chinese brand product? i can't.

I always buy snapbacks and stuff from China on eBay, always really good quality and although it gives you a month delivery they usually arrive within a fortnight!

I have had stuff from there Josy (well Hong Kong but close enough) never had to pay anything extra, was your item big?
By the law you are liable for import taxes whether the courier charges you for them or not. I've had to pay taxes on a couple of occasions.

I've bought some stuff (some cheap, some expensive) from China and Japan, was never charged for customs. But I know people who have been charged like £20 when buying from America.

I bought a corseted ball gown from China a couple of years ago. A similar English dress would of cost me around £500 but this was a made to measure outfit for something ridiculous like £70.
It did take four weeks to arrive but then they did have to make it to order. I half expected the fabric to be of poor quality but it was washed silk. It fit like a glove and looked every bit as nice as the pics on the advert. I wore it to the indented event before re-listing it on Ebay and selling it for more than I paid for it.
I often buy antique jade from China and never had any problem with delivery.

Anyone had anything like this?I buy stuff from china quite a bit and as a general rule (not always though) anything under £20 will just sail through no problem Anything above that stands a chance of getting picked up and 20% of the cost of the item will be added by customs for VAT + Royal Mail will add an £8 handling fee so on a £20 item you stand a chance of getting a card through the door from Royal Mail asking for £12 before they will deliver your item.
That said though i think i have only had it happen twice in the last few years Most of the Chinese companies just lie through their teeth on the the packing slip about the value of the item and also mark it as a gift which means it is excluded from VAT.
If its electrical stuff www.fasttech.com are really good and on the rare occasion i have had anything faulty they have replaced or refunded just on the back of a photo.
Even items that are eligible for a VAT payment about 90% just sail through no problem. They cant open every parcel.

I got a coat from China. It was exactly what I expected and no extra charges. I usually find the extra charges come from stuff purchased from USA.

I bought a rucksack for my daughter it cost £30 and mentioned about the buyer being responsible for fees when the item goes through customs, i was panicking thinking i'd have to pay loads of money to get the item through customs, but it was panic over nothing as the item came within 3 weeks and there was nothing to pay:hee:

Ive bought things from China and never had customs cost. However the things I have bought have been pretty small and cheap.
However I bought something from America and had to pay 60 pound at post office to receive it. But it was a more expensive item.

I think you may be fine though. My sister ordered headphones which came from China and she didn't have to pay anything. But they took a while to come.
