There was something like this a while ago but nothing came of it in the end.. this one seems a little different though, especially if theres two. Pretty big news if it happens & its about time.

The two players – including an England international – have told family and friends, and are being supported by their clubs and the Football Association.

We are not revealing their names. They would become the first ever players to publicly announce they are gay while in the top flight of English
football. The stars are thought to be planning to go public before the start of next season.

We can also reveal that another well known player came out to friends in 2011.

But a homophobic word was then daubed in paint across his car.

It is understood he is now reluctant to come out publicly in case he is the target for more abuse.

Not gonna happen. Best of luck to them if it does though.

All goes back to the Justin Fashanu Incident, as soon as he came out everyone wanted to interview him and the press made up so many stories about him and it killed his career and no club was prepared to give him a lengthy contract and then the allegations he raped someone which led him to commit suicide, and that was in the 90s, why would any British footballer risk something similiar

Lifes not been too bad for Robbie Rogers since he came out, the reaction to that was all pretty positive

Good on them if they do come out, but as sad as it is, it probably would be better for their careers if they didn't.

because it's 2015

if there was so much change since the 90s then this story wouldn't be headline news, the main problem is the Media.. not football fans

I completely agree with Novo on this. In this age of media scrutiny it would probably be a foolish thing to do.

However Garteh Thomas seems to have had good support albeit in Rugby. It's a tricky one to judge.

Who cares? Why doesn't the media just leave these people alone if they don't want to come out?
