Becky G to play a Power Ranger!

Lionsgate has cast Becky G. as its Yellow Ranger for the upcoming “Power Rangers” movie.

Becky G., also known as Rebbeca Marie Gomez, is a singer, songwriter, rapper and actress. She has a recurring role on the Fox series “Empire” as the fiery Valentina.

Lionsgate made the casting announcement Friday on Twitter and Instagram.

Becky G. is the fifth casting in the film. She joins Ludi Lin as the Black Ranger, Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger and Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger and R.J. Cyler as the Blue Ranger.

Dean Israelite is directing the movie from a script by Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz. Haim Saban, Brian Casentini and Allison Shearmur are producing.

The story reimagines the origins of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a group of high school kids given extraterrestrial powers who unite to save the world.

The 1993 Fox Kids TV series became a pop culture phenomenon and inspired a big-screen adaptation, “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie,” in 1995.

Lionsgate and Saban Brands announced plans last year to develop and produce a live-action movie based on Saban’s Power Rangers property as the first film in a franchise.

“Power Rangers” hits theaters on Jan. 13, 2017.

They confirmed that they will be playing the original 5.

No green ranger is planned for this film (bar an after credits scene hinting it I guess)

Hopefully if this goes on for a while, they adapt Countdown to Destruction (In Space's three part finale that ended the original storyline by killing Zordon off to save the universe)

They for sure casted the right person for the job I think, she may not be as screechy as the original VA (Barbara Goodson <3) but she'll be good.
