A new coffee shop opened in my local park. Unbeknown to the two girls running the shop i actually know their boss very well. He told me that he has told them to give out free coffee and tea £1.50 each for FREE for the first week to all customers and people passing by. As i go to the park often he asked me to test them out. I went there and was not asked if i would like a free beverage. Later that morning i passed them again and again still no free brew was offered? So i called up their boss and he was fuming. He said they have been told to give out free drinks all week. His staff are telling him they are giving out free drinks. He knows they are not and still charging £1.50 a time for a brew and pocketing the money for themselves. Nasty or what?

He could have sorted this by advertising the fact that free drinks were available for the first week both inside and outside the cafe, wouldn't it have helped attract custom as well as stopping the girls in their tracks

And I guess they are both now sacked as they have proved so untrustworthy

The thing is the girls have no clue they have been monitored and are pocketing the cash whilst telling their boss they are handing out free drinks. I expect two new girls next week. He said he will wait out the week and confront them on friday. lol

It's a popular park so selling 100 drinks a day is very easy. Thats £150 or £75 each for each day between the two of them if that's all they sell each day. It all adds up.

It's just opened how do you know they are selling so much a day? Why is the owner giving these girls a week to steal all that money, he sounds like a very poor businessman, no advertising and happy to let his workers steal from him, why hasn't he dropped in and told them he knows they aren't giving out free drinks?

The onus is on him for not planning this properly. Why on earth would you give out free drinks and not use that as a launch campaign? The whole point of free drinks for a week is to entice new customers.

It seems an odd way to start a new business, if they are selling 100 drinks a day why give them away free, usually there is a hook ..like free drink with every meal over a certain value, I can't see what value it is to the business to (a) give drinks away for free with no advertising and no terms and conditions ( can you return again and again and claim multiple drinks) and (b) allow the staff to pocket the takings for a week even though he is aware they are stealing.
