They tried something out, it didn't really work for their business and they're moving on from it. Fair enough. Also, I couldn't help but feel a bit sorry for john lewis:

John Lewis have their price match promise, and they do great bargains of their own as well.
Plenty of bargains to be found online all year long to be fair.
