An Apple store in Melbourne has been accused of racial profiling after a staff member asked a group of black teenagers to leave the premises because employees were worried the students would "steal something."

In a video filmed by one of the boys involved, an Apple employee can be heard telling the teens "these guys are just a bit worried about your presence in our store".

He said: "They're just worried you might steal something," to which one of the teenagers responds "Whoa, why would we steal something?"

15-year-old Ese, told Mashable: "It was just really offensive when he said 'we are afraid you are going to steal something. It was shocking; it was racism.

"He didn’t even give us a chance."

Following the incident, the boys who are reportedly between the ages of 15 and 16, went back to the store with their school principal to demand an apology, which they got.

However, it has done nothing to quell the accusations of racial profiling made against Apple.

In all fairness, it's not Apple's fault, it's the idiots working in that store.

Why were they in there if they did not want anything, if you want to have a quick chat with your mates you can go to coffee shop down the road

Do you buy an item in every shop you browse in, maybe one of them had a birthday coming up and they wanted to see the product before asking for it

But it would look weird if a bunch of kids came into your shop and stood there talking.

Yeah, I realise that Arista, but maybe the staff should have let them stay in the store and just kept their eyes peeled.

I got stopped leaving tesco a few days ago. I hadn't bought anything and I was wearing a backpack, and the security guy stopped me (by grabbing hold of my bag!) and then asked me outright if I'd stolen anything lol. I know I'm not black or anything so it's different (in that I know it wasn't racially motivated in my case), but it's a pretty humiliating thing to happen, especially for the boys in the video since they're so young. I think if they're going to search anyone, or kick people out their store, then they should AT LEAST have some evidence to back up their suspicions.

It will be nothing to do with their colour and more to do with that the shop gets thefts a lot from schoolkids

I doubt it was racism, working in retail you are naturally wary of people in your store, especially groups of teenagers. I think they were wrong asking them to leave before they did anything wrong though.

I was so tempted to, I was actually really angry walking back and I hardly ever get wound up. But I'm not very confrontational, I'd probably end up apologising to them or something daft haha!

People don't go to apple stores much?

Half the people in there aren't there to buy things. They go to has a look at the new products or use the wifi and **** a lot of the time. Saying they should be kicked out for having no intention to buy is stupid.
