Yes. Everyone should watch Survivor, I bet 90% of this forum would love it if they tried it. It's like I'm A Celebrity/Shipwrecked but better.
Start with Cagayan cause that's the best recent season and then watch from the start.

ok, should I start with season 1 or is there a particular season I should start with?

You definitely need to start with a recent season so you know how the show works now, but the earlier seasons are just as important afterwards

Start with Borneo, both because it's a fantastic piece of television and so you can see the evolution of The Game. We're kinda currently stuck in a ****ty era where they feel the need to throw in some returning players every ****ing season, so watching out of order might spoil some things for you (if you care about that) and be confusing since you won't have a sense of character arcs from season to season.

SJDS is a better recent season than Cagayan tho (I love both)

That's not true at all. I started in order and grasped the format pretty quickly, plus it was better to see how the game evolves from start to finish rather thank knowing how it is now, then seeing it how was then, then back to knowing how it is now again etc.

This exactly. *SPOILER'ISH* The problem with watching from the latest is that if you go from a season full of idols and messy blindsides like Cagayan, or an all stars season where everyone already has developed and studied the gameplay like HvV, or a messy dramz season like SJDS to a classic season, you will consider it dull and uninteresting. Meanwhile when you watch from the start you appreciate the classic atmosphere and the developement of gameplay way more.

^ I agree with both of those posts. The earlier seasons are much more character driven while the modern seasons are more strategy driven, and it'd be a shame if you watched something like Cagayan and then went back and found the early seasons boring because they aren't jam-packed with strategy talk. Plus, the earlier seasons are better anyway.
I'm also gonna add that Cagayan is sooooooooooooo overrated

If you like BBUSA, you´ll like Survivor.
And start from the beginning.

I started on a modern season :hee: definitely watch it though it has so many elements of drama, gameplay, storytelling and competition thst create a brilliant mix.

I personally think it´s better to start from the beginning, because then you can see how the show develops in terms of editing, focusing, game play, challenges, characters etc.

I hate BBUS, yet I love survivor. They are two different things. BBUS is just plain Grodner's rigging, manipulation, tragic editing and "revolutionary" series ruining twists and the show never redeems itself.
Calderyon
23-11-2015, 03:03 PM
Well BBUS all the way through the 7th season then, when Grodner wasn´t at the top of the helm.
And i meant that as a format of BBUS is basically Survivor in a house. Also there is plenty of manipulation on Survivor too, just maybe not in such an extensive sense as BBUS has.
Dominic
23-11-2015, 03:07 PM
Well yeah in a way, but survivor just works so much better imo and doesn't give as much power to someone or to work against someone, meanwhile in survivor it is way more scrambling and messyness.
Overall I find the gameplay, format and entertainment factor of Survivor I find much superior to Big Brother US. It also has better casts, twists (other than redemption island) and editing.

Survivor is just so much less hokey too. Like, even at the start of the show when they had absurd stuff like swimming out to Snake Island and ringing the gong at Tribal Council, it never reached BBUS levels of embarrassment with Zingbot and OTEV and those awful DRs
Dominic
23-11-2015, 03:50 PM
And yeah Survivor actually has likeable and fun confessional narrators that make it fun, rather than BBUS attention ***** DRs like Zach and John that take up 75% of the screentime

Oh, i´m not arguing with the fact that which one is the better and more enjoyable show cause that´s clearly Survivor.
Just pointing out the clear similarities between them.

The era of Survivor we are in is fantastic and not ****ty at all. But I do agree that watching in order is best to avoid spoilers.

I've seen series 1 and 2 of the UK survivor and loved it, but really do need to watch the US one. I don't know why I never have tbh

Were not suffering through Cambodia it has been pretty great so far. I get that your thing is to hate on everything but at some point it gets really old.

Survivor is MUCH better than BBUS.
Micronesia and Heros vs. Villains were the two best seasons IMO. They both feature returning players but it really does not matter if you never saw their original seasons.
Amazon was the first season I saw, I rewatched a few episodes of it recently and can say it was a good season.
Borneo and Australia are must-see classics.
I would also say Cook Islands, China, Tocantins, Nicaragua, Philippines, Caramoan, and Cagayan were great seasons worth watching. I think Exile Island and Palau were pretty good too but I can't remember them as much.
Steer clear of Vanuatu, Fiji, One World, South Pacific, and especially Redemption Island.
I haven't seen Blood vs. Water, San Juan del Sur, or World's Apart. Were they any good?

Nah it's not really my thing, I just don't like Cambodia much at all because I find it boring, pointless, and kinda confusing. There's no continuity between episodes at all because character arcs randomly stop and stop and don't carry over from episode to episode. Alliances randomly come about and never get talked about again with little to no explanation, we're just told that X and Y are in an alliance now just because. I think having three different sets of pre-merge tribes made it even more confusing since you pretty much need to have a flow chart in order to keep track of who's been on a tribe with who and who's aligned with you. I think all the strategizing is really boring too. We get no scenes of actual camp life or any character development, just 45 minutes of people moving chess pieces around. It's a really boring story to me, and it's being told in an incredibly poor manner.
I haven't seen Blood vs. Water, San Juan del Sur, or World's Apart. Were they any good?
Blood vs. Water is the most average season of Survivor ever, San Juan del Sur is fantastic, and Worlds Apart is grimy and uncomfortable and full of a lot of deplorable people.

Editing really is a problem when Abi goes from a string of OTTN5 to UTR1's
No, if you haven't seen it by this point, you better not. It's not that great of a show as it used to be.
I mean you can watch anything before season 20 to test your feet, then watch the newer seasons, but this is what's gonna happen.
You'll like it instantly, then get addicted to it, then god forbid you'll make an account on Survivorsucks and have tens of thousands of posts and your whole life is survivor.
Then you'll get to the point I'm at, to where you notice it's just bbusa with a different title. You'll get tired of the unfair twists, constant allstar/hybrid seasons, bland and basic casting, bitter juries, dumb juries. People staying longer than they should have, people being first eliminated when they shouldn't have been, etc.
But again, I suggest you watch a season before season 20, I recommend Pearl Islands season to start of, if you like that, then watch more early seasons to make your mind up as to whether or not you want to watch more of the show, because the newer seasons require you to have knowledge of rules based on early seasons.
But eventually no matter what happens, you'll start to hate the show believe me.

This I am not complaining about. Abi's negativity and hateful personality is too much for me to handle so to me the less they show of her the better.

Not even this but like Kelly Wigs being hyped up and then getting one of the most invisible edits ever, Kimmi being a nobody and then executing Monica and then fading back into being a nobody, Ciera being a nobody but now she's an underdog so she's our default protagonist, etc. There's no continuity whatsoever.

It does make sense if you think about it though. Early on Abi's tribe kept losing every challenge and she was the source of all the drama for her tribe so of course she is going to get a lot of airtime. Now that the merge has happened they switch to showing more of the strategic element which isnt Abi's strong suit. Plus they are gonna wanna focus on the major players and the people who have a shot at winning which Abi doesn't have.

Abi's personality isn't harsh or negative. She's just spicy, shady, hot headed and fiery.
Macie Lightfoot
24-11-2015, 04:42 PM
also didn't Abi pretty much spearhead all the boots pre-merge? It's not that she lacks in strategy, it's just that she's emotional and doesn't constantly give confessionals about moving chess pieces and other [boring] ****
