It's that time of the year again!

RULES FOR 2016:

Nominate up to 20 famous people who you think will die in 2016. You get points for each one you get right. Points will be calculated by deducting their age at death from 100.

At the end of 2016 - assuming we are all still here and none of us have died/been banned - the points will be counted and the winner decided.

All nominations must be posted before 6pm on 31st December 2015.

The Terminal Illness rule has been scrapped... nobody is safe from nomination.

Right, I'm actually an asshole. I pull this crap every year. I never get this **** done on time. I will get these lists put on the first post. You have until the weekend to get your lists in and/or amended. I will try to put the stuff I have on the first page this evening.

Please don't amend any posts before this one. Just repost with changes in a new reply. I'm old, and I get confused easily.

Right folks... all lists have been added to the first post. I have amended spelling in some instances, and ignored it in others (refer to the part about me being lazy).

Please look over the first post and check your list. If you want to make changes/additions, post here before the weekend and I will sort it out. If you are as lazy/incompetent as me and haven't done your list yet, that's also okay... you can post it here before the weekend and I will allow the entry.

..I do get that maybe some would be offended by this but it's really not done with any kind of 'hate' or wishing dead at all...I guess we're a forum that is much about celebrities through reality and TV series and I would say that in their lives, many more things we say could be offensive when we really don't like them at all..they could find them offensive/their families could etc...but we say them anyway because celebrities and their lives in general are 'our thing'/a large part of the forum...this though is done in a balance to the sadness of someone dying, it's not hateful in any way..and I think personally at times of great sadness and loss, sometimes you need that too...you need that balance...if a loved one of a celebrity who had died was looking at the internet and was to take offence I think it would be from cruel things from social sites..Facebook, Twitter etc...those are the things that could really hurt but this I don't see as cruel at all and I doubt it would add to any of their grief or offend...Lordy Lord, some of the things said at my dad's funeral by his friends/their stories ...well, we needed those lighter moments, no matter how cringy..we so needed them...

As somebody who takes part in this game but previously thought it was a little odd I understand people like Ashley being a bit shocked by it but nobody posts their lists and hopes all those in it will die (Apart from say Ian Brady, he can die tbh) - I certainly hope they don't anyway but I don't see the problem with predicting these sorts of things - the celebrities and their family are very unlikely to ever see and if they did they won't see anyone on here celebrating somebody's death as far as I can remember.

Clive James has had a terminal illness for years and is still going strong, I'm glad we scrapped that rule because there were a lot of grey areas - like is Alzheimer's considered terminal or not?

This tbh. There were a few complications from the terminal illness rule. If someone was diagnosed before the end of the year, but it never reached the media til January, how could we be sure if the person who nominated them knew or not?

Also, with regard to Alzheimer's ..

Is Alzheimer’s disease a terminal illness?
The American Medical Association (AMA) published a book in 2000: Diagnosis, Management and Treatment of Dementia: A Practical Guide for Primary Care Physicians. In this book, the AMA states: “Many physicians are used to thinking of cancer, congestive heart failure, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease as conditions for which palliative care and hospice referral may be appropriate; most do not think about dementia in the same way.” However, the AMA goes on to state: “Alzheimer’s disease and other progressive dementias are life-altering and eventually fatal conditions for which curative therapy is not available. Thinking of dementia as a terminal illness from which people are dying over years instead of months allows one to focus explicitly and aggressively on a palliative care plan.” When a person with Alzheimer’s disease enters the later stages, especially after the ability to walk independently is lost, the average life expectancy is about one year. Of those persons who also suffer from fever or infection, or those who have suffered a hip fracture, more than half will have died within six months.

I think if we don't know about it then we can't be expected to not pick them on that basis though, and if we did then it's just very good 'luck' (as bad as it is to use that word in this context). I know there's grey areas but someone like Martin Crowe was given a 5% chance of making it twelve months back in 2014. The obvious thing to do if you really cared about winning is just to pick another 9 celebs like that, like Jools van der Westhuizen who quite a few of us have, whereas part of the 'fun' of the game was just doing sheer guesswork about which celebs might somehow die, or at least making some logical guesses.

Very morbid thing to talk about and accept I'm probs in a minority with that but there we are :ninja2:

lily.
06-03-2016, 11:47 AM
I think you are making a fair point, Matt. Although a few I have chosen since the rule was scrapped were given a slim chance of surviving more than 6 months, yet they stuck around a year or more, so it's not a given that you will get points from a crappy diagnosis if you get me.

But, I take on board what you are saying and want to open this up for discussion to be honest, because the game is only as good as the people who play it, so if there are a majority of people who prefer the old format, then we should go back to that.

I'm open to change, so let's discuss.. :)

That's true so maybe we could have a middle ground where those with a terminal illness can only score a maximum of ten points or something like that, that way they can still be included but there's less of an incentive to just pick loads of them

Z
07-03-2016, 07:02 PM
Nah I think either we keep it as it is or ban terminal illnesses as it was before, any kind of middle ground takes away from the fun of the game I think. New Zealand's most celebrated cricketer is hardly scraping the celebrity barrel either...
