I saw this on BBC News Channel and just thought i'd share, i just love the old pictures:flutter:

I loved looking at those old pictures. I was born in 1950 and our Christmases were very much the same as in those photos.

I can imagine them playing parlor games, singing round a piano, the kids just getting one really great present that would've been a doll a teddy, or a car/soldier. It just seems so much more appropriate and fun!

It was an interesting read and imagery.

It's very strange how different all of it was just only a century ago.

They are amazing and also sad photos, as you look at those bygone Christmases in wonder but also knowing that the majority of those people are now long gone :( I do love looking at our history through photos though and often scour the internet for such photos.

Yes that's true rubymoo. I remember we got a stocking with some nuts and tangerines (the first I saw was when I was 5 years old)a sixpence, a comic book annual and one toy. We used to go carol singing to earn a bit of money and at the end of the evening when my brothers had had enough, they used to sing

'Christmas is coming and the goose is getting fat.
Please put a penny in the old man's hat.
If you haven't got a penny, a halfpenny will do,
if you haven't got a halpenny, then your window's going through'.
Then we used to run like a bat out of hell.
After my dad dies my poor mum had a hard time financially and the Salvation Army used to bring us presents at Christmas. I still contribute to them, because they do such marvellous work.

Awww, what a great cheeky song:laugh:

I remember when my mum died the salvation army bought us some food and a Christmas present each, one of my saddest memories.
