I think using "cuz" is fine in certain circumstances. It's a shortened version of because, if it was used in a sentence like "wot u bn up2 2dai m8 cuz I'm bord" then I would understand. If it's just in a sentence like "I can't be bothered with cleaning today cuz I've been so tired. Then I really don't see a massive issue.

Sometimes it just comes out without people thinking.

I think the general issue with 'text speak' is that it can be really hard to read and understand, but if it's just a simple case of someone saying "cuz" instead of "because" in an otherwise legible sentence then it shouldn't really be an issue. I'm assuming here that when it's been used, you've understood the intent of it?
