The only way robots could ever be a good human substitute for lonely people is if they are unpredictable and if they are sexy. those are the 2 things you need to create a realistic robot.

from what i've seen, robots are not unpredictable or sexy, so they are worthless.

I did like the robot from the movie Big Hero 6 though. Baymax.
