I'll clue you on on some news since I've found a sudden obsession for Eurovision over the past two months.

Here are 7 songs the BBC have rejected: http://wiwibloggs.com/2015/12/30/rejected-7-songs-that-didnt-make-the-united-kingdoms-shortlist/113134/ (World Support Ukraine was good imo, but clearly not allowed because of the overtly political lyrics)

Also an SNP member of parliament has submitted an entry: http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/politics/snps-pete-wishart-fronts-band-7091786

I think the final stays on BBC1

Cassian Harrison, Editor, BBC Four, says: “I’m delighted that Eurovision: You Decide and both of the Semi Finals are coming to the channel this year. BBC Four is the home of music on TV in the UK, and as any fan will tell you, Eurovision is one of the biggest music events on the planet and is much more than just one night of TV, therefore it is only right that BBC Four is able to showcase Europe's favourite music TV event right here in the UK."

An odd decision to put the national final and the semis on BBC Four to say the least (they'd be much better on BBC Two as that gets more viewers) but hey - at least we get to decide again. Now let's just hope we don't get another Electro Velvet in the final...

They usually have the semis on BBC Three but that'll have closed by the time they're on - although a few years ago they had a full series on Saturday nights on BBC One to pick who'd represent us (Jade Ewen) so one show on BBC4 is a bit eh

Details about the UK selection show:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/proginfo/2016/08/eurovision-you-decide

Ahead of the 61st Eurovision Song Contest taking place in Sweden this May, six competing acts will take to the stage to battle for the honour of representing the United Kingdom at the world’s largest singing competition.
Broadcast live from the O2 Forum Kentish Town, London and hosted by Mel Giedroyc, this 90-minute UK Eurovision extravaganza will feature performances by the six competing acts before the voting lines open and the public are invited to choose the song and act that will represent the United Kingdom at this year’s contest in Sweden.

Current contest champion and Eurovision 2016 co-host Måns Zelmerlöw will also appear, to sing his winning song from last year’s contest, Heroes, plus former United Kingdom Eurovision Song Contest entry Katrina will also perform with the winning song from the 1997 competition, Love Shine A Light.

The six competing acts that will perform on the night will be exclusively revealed on the Ken Bruce show on BBC Radio 2 on Monday 22 February.

Melodifestivalen 2016 has the 2nd semi-final this week. Semi-Final 1 happened on Saturday, where 2 songs (Don't Worry by Ace Wilder and Constellation Prize by Robin Bengtsson) made it to the grand final whilst 2 others (Bada nakna by Samir & Viktor and Rik by Albin & Mattias) made it to the Second Chance round on 5 March. One song, "Himmel för två (Heaven for two)" had been disqualified on the 4th because it had been performed at the 2014 Moldovan National Selection Auditions round, however Anna Book (the woman performing the song) did perform it as an interval act.

Out of all 27 songs, my favourite songs are "Don't Worry" by Ace Wilder, "Faller" by Krista Siegfrids (Finland's representative in Eurovision 2013), and "Youniverse" by Molly Sandén (Sweden's representative in Junior Eurovision 2006). I really want Ace to make it to Eurovision this year, as she is the only one out of these 3 to have not participated in a Eurovision event (main contest or Junior Eurovision) ever.

The six hopefuls weren’t supposed to be announced until Monday morning on Ken Bruce’s Radio 2 show, when their songs are played for the first time. Clearly Pateman got a little carried away with all of the excitement.
After the announcement on Monday, the UK act will then be chosen on Friday February 26 during Eurovision: You Decide, which will be broadcast live.

It's about the mass-deportation of Crimea in 1944 I believe? I think she's able to send it though because she is passing it off as a personal story relating to her grandparents. If all else fails, she can just change the lyrics to 'lasha tumbai'

At first I thought Shine a Little Light was a little boring, it reminded me of the ballads some of the females sing from other countries that don't even get through the semi-final.

Had a listen to all of our submissions, here's my ranking:

You're Not Alone > Miracle > Until Tomorrow > When You Go > A Better Man > Shine A Little Light.

Most of these submissions are very average though tbh. I didn't really want Joe and Jake's to be the best but it is imo (though it does sound a bit like A Head Full Of Dreams by Coldplay (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMCvZtl8vMU) so that's probably why I've ranked it so high).
