After hearing the crowd I think he knew he was safe in showing his hate for Winston which he so clearly had previously despite keeping calm. Before he would of had no idea of how Winston was regarded by the public and wouldn't of wanted to go all out on him and possibly come out looking bad.

Yeah it came across a bit weird to me that tbh

Mind by the 'I dont respect you' part, John had heard that the crowd disliked winston. Might have something to do with it.

People's opinions can change so easily in there, especially when it's the first day and they don't know the other housemates at all. He saw his true colours and reacted in the same way as most of the British public have.

I understood it from John, he would have been happy while Winston was in the house to return his possessions to him.
Despite being offended by his remarks re- gay adoption.

However, to be given the chance of then choosing to have him stay in the house or be able to have him leave, it made sense to me that John would be one to vote him out for sure.
