If I won the lottery I wouldn't tell anyone, just asking for bad luck

Especially if you have children. Next thing you know they are kidnapped and your lottery win pays for their release.

That sounds like something someone who won the lottery would say

I wouldn't go public.

Controversially I also would not immediately tell my family and friends the if I'd won a mammoth jackpot, either. I would wait 6 months - 1 year after I had won to get used to the money (understand investments better, get pro financial planning advice etc). Then I would wait 3 months after there was a modest jackpot or the raffle eg £1m jackpot (or scratchcard) and pretend I've won that , telling family I'm remaining anonymous. So that I could buy luxury items without family getting suspicious and not having them asking for monster handouts.
