Bookmakers try and keep a book over-round. Meaning that they should win regardless of the result.

In order to do this they adjust the odds according to what is placed.

Let's say John is 20-1 to win (I don't know if he is) and someone bangs 50,000 quid on him. That means the bookies know they will already have a 1,000,000 liability on him and so they will reduce his odds to offset that on future bets.

It's not even really about her winning to be honest, I'm sure all of us know there's a chance she won't win. It's just the enjoyment of seeing how well she's doing, compared to what was expected of her (a massive drop in her odds), so even if she ends up not doing as well as we'd like her too, it's still been great to see her defy the odds like she has been doing so far.
