I don't see this as whitewashing if I'm honest. Rita was originated with a Japanese actress because it was reused footage from the original show, there's no reason they need to still adhere to that with a complete reboot. The character herself isn't tied to a specific ethnicity (especially since she's not even from Earth). The only criteria should be who can play Rita well and I have faith that Elizabeth can do that. I'm excited tbh.

On the original show, the Rita on screen for season 1 at least was them using the original footage from the show that's Power Rangers is based on with a Voice Actress dubbing over her.

Plus the cast has been more diversified.
Kimberley is now half Indian
Trini is now Latino
Billy is now African American
Zack is now Asian
Jason is the only person that they haven't changed races for.

It's still a reboot of Mighty Morphin' specifically, irregardless of the Power Rangers TV series still being ongoing. :laugh:

Nice little speculation that makes sense

There's been speculation based on set pictures that Rita infects the rangers dream, there's a couple scenes where Trini is fighting with Rita in her bedroom to back this up.

The theory is that Rita may have possessed Trini's mother or becomes her in the dream as Trini's mother sounds like Elizabeth Banks, who plays Rita in the film. It sounds pretty plausible

Hmm, I'm not entirely sold on the Goldar redesign yet. And I quite like Alpha's design but not a fan of the voice.

I do really like some rumoured plot points though concerning Rita attempting to steal the Zeo Crystal for Lord Zedd (who himself tried years ago and had half his face burnt off in the process) and she created Goldar for this purpose. I've also read things about Zordon being the original Red Ranger which would work well with the Rita/Green Ranger theory so I'm here for that too.

Obviously not sure how accurate any of that will prove but I like the sound of it. That said, since they're making a point of redesigning iconic characters, I'll be disappointed if they do introduce Lord Zedd and he looks significantly different from his original counterpart :laugh:

Bill Hader is Alpha, I was expecting a bit more of high pitched voice given his impressionist background, it's not that bad and the design's grown on me.

The Megazord on screen has been the only real bust so far. The Toy looks decent but kinda looks dumb on screen

I'd mark out if the Zeo crystals rumors are real, could open up a Zeo adaptation at least (which could mean if they want a PRCU, Countdown to Destruction could be an Avengers or Infinity War type of deal, with hopefully an in Space movie or two in the mix as well)

She actually surprised the new Kimberly, Jason, and Zack at a press interview, the video's going around.

I think we've had pics actually of all the living members (The original Trini died in a car accident in 2001, with Time Force dedicating an episode to her) of the original 5 with their movie counterparts other than Austin St. John (Original Jason) with Dacre (Movie Jason).

The premiere is in LA this weekend so I'd say it's likely happening there before the movie starts

It's now officially out and I've got some bad news....for those that want it to flop because it's better than the show but it still has it's problems.

Positives:
Zinger One Liners, there's alot of good ones
Character Development, There's more here in 2 hrs than there's been in over 120 eps of the original show
It's not dark and gritty (People do die however, on screen)
The Krispy Kreme placement is so blatant but it's also funny at the same time

Negatives:
Pacing, it felt really uneven at times
It kinda felt like they smushed two different scripts together by two different writers
They put alot of effort into the film but there's alot more they could've done with it but I'm satisfied

I'd say it's a 7.75/8 out of 10, go see the movie.

Rita is the original Green Ranger, Zordon was the Red and Rita killed his whole team. Rita doesn't get sent into space but is trapped at the bottom of the sea from a meteor sent by Alpha hitting the earth.

The Zeo Crystal rumor is confirmed

The original Tommy and Kimberly do make an appearance in the crowd looking at megazord after the Rangers defeat Goldar and Rita. (This is where Rita, in a last ditch effort trying to defeat the rangers, is literately BITCH-SLAPPED by the megazord into space and most importantly the moon. She freezes up but she's likely not dead. Hopefully there's not astronauts on the moon right now

There's a midcredits scene where the detention supervisor does a roll call, says "Oh we have a new student, his name is Tommy Oliver" and it cuts to a desk in the back with a Green Jacket, he's not there and there's an explosion in the hallway, which then the supervisior says "Billy Cranston!" (Billy likes blowin' things up in this because his dad was a miner) and Billy replies saying "My bad"

If the overall domestic box office is about 50 million or higher, we'll likely hear that the 2nd film is confirmed

Forbes is projecting 40 million plus in the Domestic Box Office Market, which is good news actually.

It might not top the weekend however, Beauty and the Beast's live action remake is extremely popular as well

Ok this was great. I was a bit unsure about this at first but watching it i take my comment "it's going to be meh back" the character development is great and the rangers did actually have attitude but the show didn't as much and on the opening titles for the show Zordan says find 5 teenagers with attitude. I'm glad 'it's morphin time" was said and a bit of the theme music too. :flutter:

I did not expect Billy to die or to come back to life when he did die
I was shocked to see Amy Jo Johnson in the movie for 5 seconds.

I'm glad they are going with Rita was the green ranger because it made sense since she created the green ranger on the show and Zordon was the red ranger.

I loved it I love the fact that the film brings in so much diversity like the yellow ranger being LGBT and the blue ranger having autism so the film is really great it's funny and by far my favourite movie so far

The Bluray is out in North America.

There's a doc on BTS stuff, alot of deleted scenes including an original on set cameo of the original Tommy and Kimberly (During the training sequence, Trini and New Kim are having a competition over a donut hole and it cuts to Tommy (with OG long hair even) and Kimberly noticing them), Also a pretty great joke that fills in the plothole about the van that they escape the mine in, Billy asks Jason what to tell his mom about the van and Jason sarcastically says "It's crazy how someone stole the van", then later on during the funeral montage for the two fisherman that Rita killed, Billy's mom asks him about if he saw what happened to the van that night and he just repeats what Jason told him in the same way Jason told him.

While the movie did meet it's budget, I think marketing possibly put it a bit but not massive loss. They are in discussions about a sequel with the same director and everything.
