Very briefly (well too briefly for Oz) I decided to go last minute for my friends wedding so only spent 8 days there (not counting travelling time) Stayed in Melbourne and a couple of hours outside Melbourne in my friends home town for the wedding. Rained most of the time we were there...typical

it's one of the only foreign countries i'd be willing to visit, just because it seems very similar to California.

Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Ireland, and the UK are basically the only foreign countries i'd go to. most of the other ones don't even speak English!

I've been a few times and will never forget the place - it was truly magical. I met some very famous people there who have become close personal friends. I won't name them on an open forum, but they ARE truly famous:

TIN MAN, COWARDLY LION and the SCARECROW.

A lot of countries use English as a 2nd language and pretty much every holiday destination will have English speakers :umm2:

The thought of 24 hours on a plane seriously puts me off. I would prefer to go to New Zealand but again 24 hours on a plane just doesn't do it. I have a 9 hour flight to face on Monday and that's filling me with dread (especially with a 5 year old)

Where are you off to Annie :amazed: travelling long haul is probably easier than short haul as there is a lot to keep them entertained and he will probably sleep as well

I like the idea of living in permanent sun but it would be just too hot for me. :(

yes, i've been to the UK. Family vacation when i was 14 to London, and my mom dragged us around to all the old churches and buildings. It looked exactly like i expected. grey like stone. everywhere.

I was gonna go to Cancun, Mexico with my friend for spring break once. but i'm glad i didn't, she ended up getting gang raped by Mexicans. (i'm not joking)

Yes, I went in December 2012. It was a really wonderful experience. My Aunty has lived for their eight years this year and we'd never visited before so we went over for Christmas. We stayed in her apartment which is in Sydney in an area called Coogee for three weeks. It's a wonderful place and the climate was just to my liking

Ive lived in Sydney, Melbourne, Hobart and Alice Springs.

Cool places but get boring very fast. Sydney is the only place I'd consider living long term.

Hobart might be nice to retire.

i lived there for around 6 months

it was like going back in time

Sydney is quaint but there are too many vile things, including the climate that are set out to sting or kill you

cockroaches all over the shop, mozzies, spiders, no one goes out in the sun unless they are plastered in cream etc

I am sure its nice for a 2 week hol in a hotel but to live there

Animals in the cities arent too bad i did get bit by any mozzies in any of the cities.

I used to work on a ship taking people who were emigrating to Australia (1971 . 1973) so I got to know the main cities quite well. The people are great, but if I had to choose between Australia and new Zealand I would pick New Zealand every time.

Always just struck me as a hotter but dumbed down version of the UK tbh, so many different countries and so much variety in the world and yet still all these Brits choose to cross the whole world just to experience a very similar country
