I've got sun burn on my hand and shoulders (and my body but that don't hurt as much). I'm taking paracetamol, drinking plently of fluids and putting some cream on. I was just wondering how long will i have it for and will it effect me skin :worry:

Dead skin starts peeling after three days and new skin cells will develop.

About 3-5 days usually. A week at most.

I remember when I fell asleep on the lilo on holiday and I burnt so bad even my eye lids were red raw.

I could've been blinded. :omgno:

It very much depends on the level of sun burn. I had one case where it took more than a month to heal from it.

No, I was always careful and got the right cream, I had the low factor this time because i thought it be alright but nope and i kept forgetting to put it on.

You want after sun and aloe vera to ease the pain. From what I saw, it'll be pealing within three days.

My Mom had it in her teens and she told me that it takes a full 24 hours for it to stop.

I fell asleep on Beer beach once - only for an hr and a half ( its not really a beach) , just where the water arrives !, OMG sunburnt don't come into it , i had 3 weeks off work i was so ill , i couldn't even walk for days and when i eventually got home for some love and care - i was in the bath screaming for my mum as when i stood up i had bags of water on my thighs where the water got under the huge sun burn bubbles - it was a nightmare ! I could not go in the sun for years - prickly heat rash covered me and i had to wear long sleeves and trousers in the middle of summer , that sun is vicious !

I'm glad I don't get sun burnt because of my Afro-Caribbean roots :hee:

i swear i used vinegar to take the sting of the sunburn out when I was in america a few years back. it worked pretty well. you can also use yogurt apparently. have you got any aloe vera? cause that's meant to be the best thing

maybe get bandages too so that your skin isnt like rubbing against whatever fabric, and then just have loads of cream or w.e inbetween your skin and the bandages

I was thinking bandages but didn't know if that will help.

I wouldn't put bandages on, it's best to let your skin get air I would think

Just use lots of after sun and keep reapplying it throughout the day, that's all you need to do.

And next time you go on holiday use a higher factor sun cream

 I did on my last holiday because I knew it would be a really hot place but i thought 10 would be okay but nope and probs next time i will set a reminder so i don't forget. The sea and walking made me burn i guess.

Depends how bad it is really

I rarely burn, and when I do its usually just my nose and shoulders. Pain is gone in a day and peeling starts soon after

But my sister got massively sunburnt in Tunisia and it took about a week for the pain to go

Yeah swimming especially because of the reflection of the sun from the sea (and obviously the cream washing off lol), but factor 10 isn't protection at all (for me anyway, but I burn quite easily. I always use at least factor 30  )

Bandages ! are you kidding i couldn't even stand a sheet against me

Bye the way Everyone should have Aloe Vera plant - OMG its really the best thing ever on burns , just snap a stalk and rub on the burn , its way better than lavender oil ( which is also good for burns)

just get the sharpest knife you can find and peel off the outer layer like you're peeling an apple, good as new

I got really badly burned in Cyprus. I sat in a cold bath for a few hours and it soothed the pain really well.

Meh, bandages helped me loads and when people get really bad burns they have theirs wrapped in bandages too. Don't see the fuss
