Newspapers are a dying industry imo. It's a decent enough marketing attempt but I don't think it'll help them much long term.

Hmmm scrap the Indy and start this, what's it called again the 'new world order'?

Jamie89
28-02-2016, 10:18 AM
Oh I kind of misunderstood I think actually, I thought it was an existing paper that was going to start having a free Monday edition. I still can't see a new newspaper being hugely successful though due to the way the industry is.

The Mirror Group wanted to buy
the "I" paper but that was sold to Johnson Press.

So this is their "I " vision

Cos we don't all live in London or other big cities

I can see it succeeding. The i has been a big success and it makes sense to try and compete in that market of concise but serious news considering that the i has an uncertain future with the Indy closing. Apparently it won't really have editorials or opinion columns though which puts me off because they're the most interesting part of the paper

...Pretty sure we get the metro in lil' ol' southport

MTVN
28-02-2016, 11:55 PM
Southport is a pretty big town, a free paper that you get on public transport in primarily big urban areas is not the same as a national newspaper that all retailers will stock

MTVN
29-02-2016, 01:53 PM
Got today's free copy and it's bloody crap, only about three pages of actual news and even then the columns are all just a couple of inches. Layout is all confused as well, there's a sport page halfway through and then a few more pages of lifestyle crap and a world news page and then it goes back to sport at the end

For a Murdoch rag the metro isn't bad tbh, for nowt...Haven't read the new one yet I have a copy but not read it.

Its nice Paper Quality to touch.

It is a Features paper
Kizzy may like the
Shocking Headline Front page
showing a 5 year old look after his sick mother.

If it is 25p tomorrow they may sell a few

but if it gets up to 50p Monday to Friday only
it would need more pages - in my view.

My missus came home with a copy of this the other day it is the first time i have seen proof of its existence apart from this thread.
I didnt read it and only picked it up to make sure it wasnt something related to the scum which is banned in this house. I dont see it surviving even if it returns to being free.

Who are these people that want to read yesterdays news? why do these newspaper things still exist?

As Jamie said on page 1 of this thread, papers area dying industry, some slower than others but dying.

I doubt any new paper can take off and more and more younger people seem to never bother looking at a paper let alone buy one anyway.

Sad to see a better newspaper go however when so much gutter trash as to so called newspapers remain.

Although I suppose for the likes of kizzy who really value high quality, honest journalism, it is going to be sad to see front pages like this disappear from our news stands, they'll have to buy 'Pick Me Up' instead

But yes it is a shame for them (and there are MUCH worse 'news'papers still going strong, and 9 weeks doesn't seem very long to allow it to take off... but then again...

Editor Alison Phillips said "we tried everything we could" ... ...

Although the title had a social media presence, it did not have a website.

I mean really, what did they expect in 2016?
