Both.
I like a good mx, my number one rule is that it is not a dust gatherer.

Our house has a lot of antique tables, cabinets and chairs etc.
We have a modern dinning table, sofas etc.

I once worked on a magazine called BBc Homes and Antiques and it was about blending the old with the new in your home

In terms of furnishing probably mostly antique... I get too bored of modern styles too quickly (like everything having to have black glass / gloss finishes lately... zzzzzz)

Antique - although in my house there's a mixture of both, my favourite items are a mother of pearl inlaid folding travel table bought from a flea market for £8 and what i call my lion witch and the wardrobe wardrobe.

I like a mix... but err on the side of antiques. I like stuff with character. Also I like to paint furniture and shabby-chic it. I live in an old house so ultra modern would look odd anyway.

I prefer old/antique. I like to be surrounded by history. Having said that I prefer a modern cooker to the old gas type that I grew up with.

I'm the same jenny, my old wardrobe reminds me of my Great Grandma, i love it, it's like having a part of her history with me.

I was brought up in a house full of antiques but my parents have never been precious about them so the chaiselong doubles up as a pet bed and the ancient oak table has cup rings on it and I carved my initials into the underside of it when I was a kid.
France is great for picking up antique bargains because the French tend not to like old stuff. We picked up a mahogany Napoleon bed for €50 and an old French butchers block for €10.
Like others here, we've got old mixed with new but when it comes to unusable stuff like nick nacks, they have to hold sentimental value to be in our home.

I prefer modern/simplistic for furnishing. I find most antique things distracting/ugly to look at tbh. There's a reason things go out of date :hee:

...this is a painted look that I like a lot...and could be done yourself quite easily with stencils or freehand if you're calligraphy minded...I personally love freehand things/I don't like things to be 'perfect', I think that's the charm of home-made, you know...

...we need a general craft thread for people's talents and special interest in crafty things I think...I know that you both love to do various craft things...
