Well???
I'm fairly certain there's some sort of weird spirit/ghost thing around my house, but what about YOU :spin:

I saw my cat after he died. He visited a few times, although I never saw him fully, just his tail whisking out of the door.
A few years ago I was in hospital and in a lot of pain and in the early hours of the morning I was feeling about as down as you could get. Just then I smelt my dad. This sounds weird, but my dad died when I was young and the thing I remembered best about him was his smell when he came in from work, a mix of sweat and engine oil. It was a pleasant smell and I always associated it with my dad. It was very comforting.

No Marc because they are fictitious, its what mankind has invented to explain things we cant
It also makes us seem more interesting and that is a very human desire to be liked
But fundamentally such things are a load of old crap

No. it's impossible, because they don't exist.
I did once see Freddie Krueger though, I was of my face on acid at the time.

I think I saw my mums 1st husband as a kid, we were alone and I said I'd seen a man in a grey suit watching me ( he was buried in a grey suit)
I've also 'smelt' people, the day after my dad passed the living room (that he died in) at my mums was flooded with a beautiful scent for like 2 mins and then totally disappeared.
I sometimes smell my sister in laws perfume too occasionally it's happened in a few places, at home, in my daughters car it's nice :)

No, Not the Casper type ghost that a lot think of as ghosts.
But I have seen my mother in spirit, and I have sensed other spirits, also seen thick mists hovering in our last house.
Never felt really threatened by anything, just a bit uncomfortable at the strange feeling when it is a spirit I have not known, my grandmother was one and a friends father was the other.
I also witnessed both my dad and my mother-in-law seeing spirits of loved ones shortly before they passed.
I suppose you have to see it or feel it before you believe in it.

That's an interesting post, I have never come across visibly a ghost or spirit or whatever form it may be,however I keep open my mind on the issue.
I have had a couple of things occur that I certainly cannot explain away, the sceptics dismiss it as nonsense, however others have no explanation for them either.
However,I know they took place where I was, although I was alone.
One scared me rotten.
So that is why I keep an open mind and your point in your last sentence is the full and perfect summary of the issue,in my view.
