Presume this is what you are talking about?

The Islamic society at a top university has come under fire for holding a gala dinner where men and women were segregated from one another by a screen running down the middle of the room.

Muslim students from the London School of Economics had to buy separate tickets to the society's annual dinner depending on whether they were a 'brother' or a 'sister'.

When they turned up at the event, held at a banqueting hall in Central London, there was a large screen separating the men's tables from the women's ones, stopping the attendees from even looking at each other.

Eh if you want to buy into a religion that's so openly and blatantly discriminatory then go ahead I guess.

...hmm, I'm a bit torn with this because any type of segregation/discrimination etc doesn't sit well with me at all..and I'm 'picking on' your post LT....just because I know that you have daughters as well, plus I know how you feel about any 'negatives' with religion in any education establishments and for sure, this could be taken as a negative/segregation can't be anything else really..?..so I do completely understand your views....

...but the thing is, if you take out any culture/religion etc and put it aside for one moment... it's been part of what has been accepted in this country for many decades to have single sex education establishments...all boy schools/all girl schools etc and within that, many single sex social events...obviously it's been a personal choice for a parent, if they've felt that, that's what they have wanted for their child/children ..but that choice has been there for them and it's segregating, surely..?...it's just not segregating on culrural/religious beliefs....so if this was to be objected to on the grounds specifally of culture/religion and for that reason alone or that reason primarily..?..then surely, by definition, it would be racist/showing prejudice against beliefs..?....
