View Full Version : Do you have a drink every night?

Conzors

Good Evening TiBBers,

My returning post is this. I have been bought up in a household where my dad would drink beer every night and my mother would have a drink or six.

They never got drunk but they did have a drink everynight. When I moved out i vowed not to be the same just due to the health concerns but recently ive been having a drink everynight whether its a beer, a glass (or bottle) of wine.

Tonight i have gone through a whole bottle of pink moscato barefoot, as it was reduced BY ONLY 50p to £5.50. My mind told me "It's on offer, so get it and save it for a good night" - a few hours later after my evening cigerette i decided to open it and have a glass only to find that I a teaspoon left (doesnt count as the whole bottle, right?)

So my question to you is, Do you have a drink or twelve every night, or do you just save it for the weekends or special occasions? If you do, is is part of your routine? Do you fancy it? Do you feel like you need it?

Answer below.

Ciao xxxx

i tend to have a couple of nights off a week, mid week

let the liver regenerate

every now and then i have a month off

(once a year)

You need to treat the drink like living with a convicted murderer, they might be excellent company but you never take your eye off them..

Thanks for the introduction, I could get used to this special treatment LT.

I drank every day for 15yrs, I stopped for good in 2012. My mother in her 80s still drinks everyday.

'So many children of alcoholics have it worse. In fact, children of alcoholics are three times more likely than others to consider suicide – and three times more likely to become alcoholics themselves. Alcohol harm already costs our country £21bn a year, yet we’re doing almost nothing to stop this curse of alcoholism cascading down the generations.'

Did you stop because you were addicted then? If so, you are an inspriation and should be very proud.

So, are children of alcoholics the same as children of parents who drink everyday? I think theres a difference between alcholism and drinking everyday. But i do agree with your point.

My friends mother is an alcoholic and its so hard to be her friends because she is very down and low. She has a roof over her head, earns enough money, but still finds things to moan about. Do you think this is due to being bought up within a household thats fueled by alcohol?

Yes I was alcohol dependent, I needed to drink everyday, that is what alcoholism is Conzors :)
It is a depressant so I can see why her mood would be low, you can still function yet there are long term physical and mental health issues associated as as well as disruptions to 'normal' family life.
I used to kid myself it didn't have an impact, I was lying to myself.
Like you I fell into the glass, 2 glass, half a bottle, oh may as well finish this quite easily.

I drink occasionally but not every night and I can quite happily go without. I went through a phase when I was at uni where I drank a LOT but it was more of a social thing, I've never really felt the need for it.

Well that's good, but beware little warning signs. going out to the shop for a drink if the weather is awful, or you're tired and really could just do with going to bed, or rushing back from somewhere so you don't miss the local shop closing, or having a bevvy before you go out making sure there's some for when you get back too, or you feel jittery at the though of having a night off it, starting a second bottle because you're happy/sad/celebrating/not celebrating.
I does creep up on you, just be aware :)

Nope. I haven't drank for about 2 months now, first time will be at my wedding on Saturday (then probably more on honeymoon afterwards...:p)

I'm not old enough to drink legally but my mum let's me drink on the weekend with her if she has wine. Other than that I only drink at house party's.

Actually the person in my family who drinks the most is my Nana, she drinks whiskey and lemonade every night

Drink also affects people in different ways. I had a uni pal that loved the social aspect of drinking but it just made him feel dizzy and sick and eventually he just stopped as it was not fun for him, he had ear problems as well. My mum got drunk once and hated it so much she never drank again. I also knew a girl who would just go bright red when she drank and she hated it and thus hardly touched a drop.

there is no point asking a forum if you have a drinking problem. Only you know the honest answer to that and the fact that you are posting indicates that you believe you have an issue. The question is, do you want to alter your drinking habit. If you do, then seek assistance, if you don't then carry on.

I rarely drink alcohol really, only if out with friends or family and usually that is limited to no more than 3 drinks.
Only at Christmas and New year do I buy alcohol for to have in the house, just to offer any visitors a drink if they want one.

The only other times I sometimes have alcohol will be with a meal when out but then really prefer water with a meal anyway.
Then again as I drive most places now, I never ever have alcohol.

Most of what I bought this Christmas past is still there intact,it just doesn't appeal to me really.
So no in answer to the question,I don't have a drink every night.

Not really :joker:,
I just like to offer anyone one who visits over the Christmas/New Year period.
Otherwise I never have alcohol in the house usually.
