I've been really ill for about 10 days now and I've been desperately trying to get into the doctors to be told everyday I'll be waiting 2 weeks for a appointment so I finally gave in tonight and after unbearable pain I went to A&E where I was waiting about 5 mins as it wasn't busy so the doctor did the test she needs to do and tells me I have a chest infection and had I left in a few more days I would have been hospitalised but she said medication should get rid of it at this time.
So basically all of this people going to doctors for company or non serious problems could have lead to me getting very seriously ill and it's never bothered me until now but it needs to change as its making me thing of people who could be worse then me waiting even longer for a 5 min appointment.

I've done that everyday possible and I still don't understand how it can be fully booked up.
Some surgeries are nightmares.
I have no problems with mine, however in future find out if you can ask for a telephone appt with a Doctor, who usually will ring you back that same morning.
Then once you are talking to the Doctor, if he/she feels you need to be seen, then they will make sure you can go along to the surgery and be seen.
Receptionists can be absolute nightmares,I rarely go to a Doctor luckily, when I do ring however and they ask what the problem is, I tell them that with respect, I only talk to the Doctor or Nurse at the surgery as to any health issues.
All you do is phone the docs fir an emergency appointment they need to give you one that day.
Or phone out of hours if you have that
Get well soon though
..yeah, what Josy says really, Adam...if you say it's an emergency, you can usually get to see a GP that day or the following day...sometimes the GP's will do telephone appointments as well, so anti-biotics may be prescribed by you just explaining your symptoms over the phone and you then collect your prescription...I'm sorry to hear that you've been poorly Adam...now that you have medication, I hope you start to feel better soon.....

Same here i recently rang for an appointment and had to wait over 2 wks and it was for 7pm , this is a regular occurrence at my clinic ! I wanted to change doctors but every other surgery is apparently to far away, it is a totally ridiculous state of affairs.

this is a trversty in this country to wait this long for a appointment but it is not just you its all over. but like you say if you are unwell and really don't no what it is and feel really scared - just go Aand E and at least your mind is put at rest. if they say why did you not go your doctors explain again the appointment was for 4 weeks away and I was so scared.

I have to say mine are great, they always get you in on the day you phone and they come out if you are too ill to get there.
I do understand that time wasters must be insanely irritating though. Hope you feel better soon Adam

The GP by us guarantees you a same day appointment if you go there at Half 7 in the morning, maybe your GP has a similar system.

mine used to be awful but since it's being refurbished atm and half of it is shut, they've managed to get me in whenever i've asked (which has only been once and was actually for my sister i think) but yeah it confuses me a little

Mine bend over backwards for me.
Phoned up at 2.30 today for a doctor to come out and see me tomorrow, she will be here between 11 and 2, after surgery.
If I phone for an appointment they normally give me a cancellation as soon as possible. Doctor will normally have a chat on the phone as well if you wish.
