Basically US women don't get paid for world cup qualifiers but the men do, and the men get paid a lot more for friendly games. The women won the world cup...

Your thoughts on this, please.

They do the same amount of football, it should be the same amount of pay really.

The Women's team is more successful and high profile at this point, I know more female US players then male ones.

There's no reason why they shouldn't be paid as much, or more, as the males since the females are arguably the bigger draw here.

No sports person should be paid for representing their Country, it should be an honour and privilege to be asked to wear your Country's colours.

This is a conundrum. If women, U21 or kids are more successful than men should they get paid more? Eg World Cup England women's team came #3. Could have won whole tournament if US faltered in final. The men could not get out of a group with past it Italy and drew dead rubber against Costa Rica. Should Lucy Bronze et al get paid more than Rooney et al? Also should US men get paid more than England as they did reach R16. The Ghanaian's got paid the most weirdly

This boils down to fact that men's sport is superior than women's, most sports fans are men. Men by and large don't generally care about women's sport (unless it's beach volleyball or hot good tennis players). Guys didn't dash home or to the pub to watch the women's world cup. The BBC tried to big up the viewing figures but they were shockingly relatively low considering its football. Not a single football broadcasting pub near me showed the women's matches.

I understand the women's game in US is popular because the women triumphed and are good (but the US will get behind any sport they are good at eg tiddlywinks). As soon as the men's USMNT become a national force to compete with Spain, Brazil, Germany, France and Argentina and reach WORLD Cup finals the women's team will be swiftly forgotten about I suspect.

Biology just mena the best athletes are men. I love Serena Williams but Novak Djokovic could play the entire women's top 20 in a day and not break serve let alone break a sweat, the women wouldn't even get a point. On a tangent, knock on effect, now that they have allowed pre op transgender people to compete i will be very interested to see the impact it has on womens sport. Caitlin Jenner at 56 could still compete against women and win easily. Tiger Woods comes out as trans and competes on the women's tour....

Should be a set amount of pay per hour for both men and womens. And then those more popular top up their pay with sponsors and such. Same for the tennis crap thats being bitched about. Would sol;ve a lot of 'stress'

For tennis basic tourney cash money, that can be topped up by sponsors if they wish to

That way the more popular athletes continue to be paid more (as they should be) and noone can moan about it

That's a nice quaint notion, but in the real world not all players are on Rooney £300k a week mega salaries, some players don't even play in a confederates league. Some players for Faroe Islands, San Marino have to take time off work to participate in qualifications (no chance of qualifying, too). The Albanians aren't exactly rolling in dosh either.

You seem to have some sort of beef with Rooney, I'm getting to think it's something personal he's done to you.

You gonna let us all in on the story of what Rooney did to earn your wrath?

In fact the women should be being paid more than the men's side just for the fact that it's the more successful team.

But yes our women's team was much more successful so yes should've been paid more than our men's England Football team.

Who knows it might've given the men a kick up the backside for future tournaments if they actually did that pay as you play system for everybody.

I do agree however that it's gonna be hard ask for people to do a job for free, as really it's like the public would be watching Slaves playing a Sport on TV.

A big reason why US is on top is several nations where men's 'soccer' is successful eg Argentina, Brazil, Nigeria, Spain there is a lack of interest in women's sports. There was very little pressin Spain during the women's world cup . Marta 'the female Pele has got to wander across Europe to play these days. She's not well known or loved in Brazil.

As soon as the US Men's team does well * the women's team will be history.

* This won't happen any time soon as

Klinsmann seems to have no tactical acumen and seems to play players out of position. Won't be shocked if goalie Tim Howard ends up playing as a centre forward
Klinsmann keeps picking players such as Howard and Guzan who are either unable to get into Everton or useless at Villa
Too many of the young guys play in the MLS which is the worst league for a young player. They should go the Bundesliga or Bundesliga 2 at a mid table club. Brookes is now thriving at league postion #3 Hertha Berlin. Or the young players could try for a spot at St Pauli (or La Liga's Rayo Vallecano which has a US franchise Rayo OK). If the youngesters want to play in England they should do some research and try and land a spot in and up and coming mid table Championship side who could get into Premier League or a play off spot next season. They would get first team football at league 1 and 2 which IMO is better than MLS. Overhyped US whizzkid Jordan Morris decision to snub the Bundesliga for MLS was one of the dumbest decisions in 'soccer' history. Just because something is American it's better. MLS is on par with League 2.

They will lose this case I suspect. The US mens team are compensated in line with other men's teams. The US men's team probably get not much less than say, Italy, Uruguay or Nigeria. There is no way in hell a mere women's team US or otherwise deserve to get the same as truely great players like Suarez etc.

Even as a woman I wish women would just accept that in certain areas eg sport they are vastly interior to men. The same with age, physical ability, lrofessioanl status. If the England U13 boys win the youth world cup does this mean they should get paid the same or more than the men's side who couldn't get out of the group (Costa Rica, Italy, Uruguay) in world cup 2014? Exactly. As controversial as it may seem there is a hierarchy in sport eg amateur, women, kids, Paralympics are all very great bla bla bla but let's not pretend they are on par physically with the non Paralympic /Olympic, male athletes otherwise it's just PC gone loopy.

Mystic Mock

All International Football competitions should be rewarded in a system that's similar to pay as you play.

Basically each round that a team goes through they get bigger bonuses handed out, whilst the losers get handed out the basic wages in Football.

So to answer Alex Front2, yes that would mean that the England U13's would be paid more than the main team as under my rules of International Football they've gone further in their competition hence they get the bigger bonus.

Also if that system was in place it builds up a bigger profile for the Under 13's, the Women's team, and whatever other teams that you can think of in International Football.

It also might give the some of the Men's teams a kick up the backside too if they knew that their Under 13's and their Women's teams were being paid more for going further in their own equivalent of the World Cup.

The female team is a lot more successful than the men's though and they are more recognisable.

They're bigger stars than the men's team and they've had more success. Why aren't they paid as much as the men's team when they are the better team?

^ I dont often agree with you Dezzy, when it comes to serious debates and stuff, but I totally agree with you here. Womens football is huuuge in America. They are the best team in the world and I heard once that the best they make is $50,000 per year? (I might be wrong with that) But still, they should be making 10 times that considering how well men are paid in the sport... I would understand if they did less time, but they dont.... they do just as much running and just as much training.

Aussie women (Matildas) lose 7-0 to Newcastle Jets U15 boys side. Suspect US soccer federation will be observe this result fervently and gingerly suggest the USWNT play the Seattle Sounders or DC United u15 boys side and, just to, you know, see what happens....:laugh2:
