I'm like Kazanne and don't really like Horse Racing very much, I am however a lot softer on it than I used to be.

The ones in bold are the ones that caught my attention if I was to bet on it however, they'd be the ones that I'd consider.

Hello Mocky,I know a lot of people enjoy this spectacle, it's just not my cup of tea, I think it's cruel and jumps way too high ,even though they have been lowered a bit,I had a flutter once and the horse I chose fell and was put to sleep ,so never again for me.

Hello Kazanne, I agree with you I'm not keen on how high the fences are either, I used to argue on my Dad about it a lot when I was younger.

However I do watch it as it's probably a rare time where we all seem to have an opinion on the same thing in my house, good or bad so we can discuss it afterwards.

My worst Sport is Boxing though, all it is really is how quick can you get brain damage.

I have to say I always breath a sigh of relief when they get found the track, it's the only race we all have a flutter on as a family

Spare a thought for the bookies; if you know what each way means, explain it to your relatives before they dodder off to place their bets. Please. PLEASE! :umm2:

It is a nightmare. An unholy nightmare. Although it is also the only day of the year that you get passable-looking females entering a bookmakers so there's always that...

Meh. Anyway. Generally I don't bet at all (other than on reality TV because it's highly predictable and you can make decent money, heh) but I have Many Clouds straight win and an e/w on Goonyella. Might as well get into the spirit, I suppose.

 I DO feel for you T.S., I've been in long queues of once-a-year pinsticking punters on Grand National day who didn't write out their bets clearly - the most memorable of whom was an old dear who even handed the teller a blank betting slip and asked her to write out 6 horses, all each way, for her.

The great irony is, that ALL the regulars moaned and groaned about her, but her 'top' horse which she put £1 ew on - Mr Frisk - WON the National and none of the 'pro' regulars had that winner, including myself.

Where I am, I don't actually bet on the Grand National but a Cousin does and when we go in to do so, there are staff on hand to help people write out their bets and advise them and there is even light refreshments on hand too.

Very rarely have we seen really long queues or hold ups at the actual counter on Grand National day.

I know it is a race this divides opinion,I am probably more against it than for it myself and I wish the fences were easier but even when a jockey is unseated, often the horse will continue running the race and even still jump the fences too.
So clearly the horses in the main must enjoy it.

I've been betting in this race for over 30 years, and I've only ever had the winner once (Seagram 1991).

This year I haven't even looked at the form, jockey or trainer, I've just gone for three big prices.

I've Done

On His own
Buywise
Ray Parlour AKA The Romford Pele

That's because Horses do love running.

The Sport itself is fine if as you said they lowered the Fences so it was less dangerous for the Horses to jump.

 Trufthfully LT - I backed all three of my selections each way to the same stakes, but ended up backing 'Rule The World' again after the odds fell to 40/1, so it ended up as my biggest investment.

My most satisfying bet on a memorable Saturday though, was taking the 4/1 Paddy offered and betting on Anthony Joshua KO-ing Charles Martin in the first 2 rounds.

Half my winnings from Saturday have gone on Fury beating Klitschko AGAIN in the rematch.

I had already backed him at 'evens' but could only get 10/11 this time, but I still think that even at those odds it's an opportunity for 'free money'.

Lump on.
