Upgraded PS4 (PS4K/Neo (code name)) is looking likely to be announced going by Giant Bomb's latest article. http://www.giantbomb.com/articles/sources-the-upgraded-playstation-4-is-codenamed-ne/1100-5437/

Yeah, I'm not over keen either. A lot aren't. However it looks inevitable. The Wall Street Journal ran an article about it not so long ago and that seemed to all but confirm it given how reliable they are.
I don't personally see why Sony are going down this route. The PS4 has sold something like 40 million systems and is still going very strong. Perhaps Nintendo are seen as a threat given the NX looks to be more powerful, but still, it's highly unlikely the PS4 will suddenly stop selling.
The good news is that the current PS4 will still get the same games and there won't be any exclusives made for the new system only. I do wonder whether that will be the case for VR games, however.

there's no point if all it offers is a better image quality (which i'm happy about... i'd hate neo exclusives) just give us a ps4 slim or something if they insist on releasing a new console
not sure why they're bothering at all tho they're supposedly selling loads of consoles?? no one asked for a new console focus ur resources on giving us name changes or whatever else on the long list of features people actually want

Something I forgot to add was that developers don't appear to be too happy about an upgraded PS4.

So, from the sounds of it, Nintendo is basically going to be a no show, despite their new system launching before E3 2017...

Nintendo are determined to make all the wrong choices it seems.

I can't help but feel this is gonna be another disaster for them, it is less than a year til the NX is out, there is zero information on it, Zelda is the only confirmed title, and we have no idea when the machine itself will be revealed.

There are rumours that games will be made for PS4 specs but then will have an added 'Neo mode' which will upgrade the graphics, resolution, frame rate etc.
Could be a ball ache for devs.

Didn't think much of EA's or Bethesda's conferences.
There's been a real lack of surprises so far. Looking forward to Ubisoft's and Sony's conferences though.
Is Nintendo not showing up? What about the NX?!

They're doing SOMETHING but I can't for the life of me recall what. The NX isn't showing up though.

Ubisoft was fun as usual, I only really cared for South Park and For Honour but they always put on a fun show.

Sony's conference seemed the most impressive this year, it was game after game again :D

I thought Sony's conference was decent. I was disappointed that we didn't get an update on Shenmue or FFVII but I'm glad we have a release date for The Last Guardian.
God of War is intriguing, seems like they may have made it open world this time around. It definitely looks less like the DMC clone it used to be.
I don't really care for Hideo Kojima's new game, I can't get hyped about a self indulgent trailer that revealed nothing about the game.
Resident Evil's reveal was genuinely shocking, we were all expecting it but I didn't think they'd hammer down on the horror side quite as hard as they did.
Days Gone looks like a trash attempt at emulating The Last of Us without the nuance of brilliance of that game. Weak ending to the conference.
I don't really care for the VR stuff.
The Crash announcement is great but to not reveal ANYTHING and instead go on to talk about Skylanders deflated the event as did the extended look at CoD.
Spiderman looks fun.
It was probably the best conference but compared to last year's it was lacking.

To be fair, there's no way they could have topped last years conference, lol.

If they dropped an update on FFVII and Shenmue it would have come close.
Hell, rejigging the order of the games they showed would have been enough. I'd have put God of War at the end, ending it on a game that no one really cared about was a misstep.

There's a rumour floating about the Sony conference was supposed to end with a Red Dead Redemption sequel announcement, but due to a scene in the trailer involving a shooting, they decided to remove it last minute.
While I'm not sure if I buy that, I do feel like the end of the conference was very strange, and felt like something had been pulled. Apparently we'll see the trailer June 19th if this rumour is true, so not long to wait.
Overall I thought it was a solid year, I'd say Microsoft's showing was better, I'm very interested in Sea of Thieves, We Happy Few, Halo Wars 2 and Recore, and most of their other stuff was interesting, plus the Xbox One S looks so sleek! I was hoping for an announcement of Xbox Live going free but beggars can't be choosers.
Sony has a very nice showing, just quite poorly paced. The opening was the first time I've ever cared about God of War, Horizon looked phenomenal, and Days Gone showed potential (even if I was bored by it by the end of the demo). I feel like all three of these suffered a bit due to the fact they all shared some mechanical similarities. The VR stuff was a bit of a slump, and the Crash announcement fell very flat for me unfortunately. I reckon we will get a better show from them at Gamescom in all honesty.
Nintendo brought Zelda and Zelda looks incredible. But it just makes me more rabid for the NX announcement, so I'm holding a lot of excitement back until then.
EA were godawful, one of the worst shows in years. Not even comically bad, just terrible.
Bethesda made me care about Dishonoured, I am also looking forward to seeing more of Prey and Quake, plus hearing they are working on Fallout 4 VR is great news!
Ubisoft were alright, I'm intrigued by Trials of the Blood Dragon, the Star Trek VR game, Watch_Dogs 2 to a degree and South Park. The snowboarding game was a really poor ending, unfortunately. Beyond Good & Evil 2 missing in action again, I assume because it's NX exclusive.

E3 has now ended, this year wasn't overly exciting, felt kind of a in between year, I'm hoping next year we see more games. But its not long til Gamescom and TGS, and then, of course the 'Winter E3' with VGA and PS Experience.

Kinda bland all in all, definitely a major step down from last year.

I'm surprised that EA didn't show off anything of substance with Mass Effect, given its meant to be out in less than a year.

One of many misteps tbh.
I think I only truly enjoyed Ubi's presentation this year. Sony's had some great points but was let down by a lack of interesting reveals outside of RE, a tepid ending and no updates on Shenmue and FFVII.
Scarlett.
17-06-2016, 07:25 PM
I think VII wasnt shown due to Square Enix wanting to focus on FFXV publicity. For Shenmue, I don't think they have anything of proper substance to show yet. I think we can expect more from FFVII Remake around TGS or PSX.
Tom4784
17-06-2016, 07:26 PM
I think they could have focused on XV and still showed something FFVII related. They could have just shown the bar scene when you meet Tifa or the first Church scene with Aerith and that would have been enough to create hype.
Scarlett.
17-06-2016, 09:30 PM
True, but with XV being out in 3 months, Square's gonna be focusing on VII Remake fully pretty soon. In years passed when E3 was THE event for everything they probably would have teased it, but with so many events throughout the year, they can save it til later.
