he Pokemon Company is reportedly looking to get a live-action film made based on its popular creature collecting franchise.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "a top-secret auction" for the film rights to Pokemon is currently underway and "nearing completion," with Legendary Entertainment pushing hard to secure franchise. Sources claim Warner Bros. is very interested as well, and has "pursued the property aggressively." Sony is reportedly also in the running.

The Pokemon Company has allegedly been "courting Hollywood to launch a big-budget live-action movie" with Warner Bros. being an early favorite—which makes sense given the two previously worked together to release several animated Pokemon films. However, sources now say it looks like Legendary will come out of the auction on top.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the beloved creature-collecting franchise, and The Pokemon Company is celebrating in a major way with the release of Pokemon Sun/Moon later this year, as well as a new mobile game called Pokemon GO.

The company also released a dazzling commercial during this year's Super Bowl, which offered a brief glimpse at what a live-action Pokemon film could potentially look like.

Not really surprising seeing how much money Disney's making with their live action remakes. I imagine a lot of other animated properties will want to get in on the action.

Don't think it'll work well though, most Pokemon wouldn't look right in live action.

It's an interesting idea, however it could easily go wrong if the CGI effects are really terrible on the Pokemon.
