So has anyone seen Civil War? I loved it but am slightly confused:
Why did Tony's parents die?
The whole thing with Zemo? Who? Why?

They've removed that from the schedule as far as I'm aware.
A little odd since they've been laying the groundwork with the Inhumans in Agents of SHIELD.

I'm really fussy about watching them in release order. What gets awkward is when Agents of SHIELD does a tie-in with one of the movies and I'm not in a position to see the movie asap.
I love the scope of the shared universe though, even if it is getting increasingly difficult to keep up with. :worry:
I'd like to get into the X Men movie series too but I just haven't bothered with that yet for some reason.

Yeah lol, I use to watch Agents Of Shield but got bored
I wasn't to fussed about Antman, I watched the first 20 mins last year and couldn't get into it (well, I wasn't in the mood). But I will defo watch it soon, maybe tonight even.
I only watched Age Of Ultron and The Winter Solider the other week as I've just stopped watching Marvel movies over the last 2 years!
But I watched Wolverine, XM Days Of Future Past, Age Of Ultron and The Winter Solider in Easter holidays and fell in love with the universes again.
I was perched for Civil War.
I'm really into X-Men now, Deadpool was great. X-Men Apo looks so good!
I need to re-watch the first Captain America as I can't remember much of it tbh.

They have a mixture of standalone episodes and episodes important to the ongoing storyline (but as it's progressed the standalone episodes have decreased, that's one of the improvements tbh). And even in standalone eps we might get a bit of info that's important to the ongoing story. Honestly I'd say watch the whole thing but don't force yourself through if it you're not really feeling it.
Peggy Carter makes a couple of cameos in the second season. (Speaking of, Agent Carter is good too ).

Hmmm well I would say at this point the major running plot points of the series are Inhumans, and the ongoing evolution of Ward (which seem to be also sort of merging now) and I'd say you really need to watch from the start to get to grips with both... though if you've watched any at all, you could probably jump straight to ep 17 of Season 1, and then straight into Season 2... which has been the best series... so I wouldn't skip much if any of it.
I don't think you could jump into it now and have any idea what's going on with a lot of things tbh, there haven't been many "standalone" episodes for ages, it's essentially all a running storyline at this point. You could probably start at the beginning of S3, if you watched Season 1 ep 17 and then thoroughly read the wikipedia page for season 2, but you'd be missing most of the best of the show

Going to see Civil War on Wednesday, I'm kind of looking forward to it but I have to admit that I'm a little tired of the MCU tropes, I'm just hoping that half of the film isn't just setting up for something else.
For some reason I'm not too excited for X-Men and I'm not sure why since I loved First Class and Days of Future Past. I'm sure I'll love it though.

Just been catching up on Agents of SHIELD and starting to think... Isn't an Inhumans movie a bit redundant at this point? They've been covered extensively on AoS, meaning their origin story has now been done, and it feels like the only options would be to carry on from what's already established (meaning that anyone who doesn't watch AoS, which let's face it covers the vast majority of casual moviegoers, would have no idea what was going on) OR basically do a reboot origin story and completely break the combined MCU.
Wonder if they've shelved the film because they've realised that they used up the entire storyline in AoS :joker:
Lostie!
03-05-2016, 10:25 PM
From what (admittedly little) I know about the comics, AoS hasn't covered all of the potential Inhuman stories. Actually I think most of the ones in AoS are original characters not from the comics anyway.
Tom4784
03-05-2016, 10:28 PM
I think they're struggling with the idea of an Inhumans film, they've kind of used them as a replacement for the X-Men but the actual Inhuman characters from the comics are a bit more...out there.
Toy Soldier

From what (admittedly little) I know about the comics, AoS hasn't covered all of the potential Inhuman stories. Actually I think most of the ones in AoS are original characters not from the comics anyway.
Yes but it's not like they've been introduced in AoS as some obscure little branch of Inhumans with the "main" ones still to be covered, it's been done as a major origin story with global consequences... and because AoS is part of the MCU they can't undo that and say "Actually THESE are the main Inhumans and here is THEIR origin story...".
So basically, I don't see how they can do a movie of Inhumans without it following on from their introduction in AoS... and as most moviegoers don't watch AoS... how do you cover all of that for people to catch up? Your only other option is to consider their AoS origin "non-canon" and reboot them. Which would (IMO) set a bad precident for the MCU which has, thus far, managed to weave together the TV shows and movies well.

A Black Widow movie is looking highly possible now:
But in a May 6 interview with Deadline, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige admitted that he is mulling the idea of adding even more standalone movies to the company's slate — particularly for Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow.
...the one [solo movie] creatively and emotionally that we are most committing to doing is Black Widow.
We think she’s an amazing character. We think Scarlett Johansson’s portrayal of her is amazing. She’s a lead Avenger and has amazing stories in her own right to tell that we think would be fun to turn into a stand-alone franchise.

It should have been done, at the latest, after the first Avengers... I almost feel like it's too late for a standalone Black Widow movie even at this point, let alone in 2020 and beyond after Infinity War (which is really when they'd have to do it).
I'd imagine a Black Widow movie to be stripped back, with human (or at least almost human) enemies, which would work as an origin story or a "close to origin" story that could have been done back at the end of Phase 1.
Marvel have thus far kept their timeline in chronological order, with the exception of "The First Avenger", but that was still the first appearance of Cap himself and so not a prequel... so I doubt they would go back and do a Black Widow origins... and a standalone movie like that AFTER Black Widow has been fighting against gods side to side with superpowered Avengers... feels a little bit redundant? Like any villain that she can realistically face alone, can't be anywhere close to as powerful as the villains she's already face on multiple occasions. She has to be facing a human opponent that - realistically - at this point she could have wiped off the face of the planet with a phonecall.
In other words - she has a vital place in the Avengers unit but I don't understand her place as a solo force against any opponent that's not going to come across as... well... "you people are so petty and tiny".

Yeah, I think it's a bit late too, I'm guessing that Marvel wants to push Captain Marvel as their premiere female hero though which is why they've held back on a BW solo film.

They could have used 2013 for a Black Widow movie, we only had Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World.
2014 would have been tricky considering BW was a main character in The Winter Soldier and filming would have been tight.

Tbf Winter Soldier, though the plot line is obviously pure Captain America, is almost as much a Black Widow movie based on screentime. Though more in a "Batman and Robin" side-kick sense I suppose.
They should just hit her with super-soldier serum or something, the MCU doesn't have to stick exactly to the comics. They don't seem to be going that route with AoS's Bobbi (Mockingbird, who was juiced up with the same serum as Captain America) so they could just siphon that plot off for Black Widow. I always find it a bit... "anti-feminist" in the Avengers... With her being the only original female and also quite clearly the weakest (in terms of combat ability). Even compared to Hawkeye... And he's sort of lame. They have a female powerhouse with Scarlet Witch now though, I guess, who if you go by the comics could pretty much take them all on at once and win.

Just out from seeing it - strangely I actually thought the opposite to this. I enjoyed the fight in the sobering bunker more than the airport battle. Not that the airport battle wasn't a lot of fun also... I just felt like there was slightly TOO much going on, too many cuts. Also I need to watch it again to be sure, but...
plot hole, or rather, action direction / editing hole... WHERE does Vision go for the entire Airport fight?? He turns up, does that beam line in front of them, he's there when they all charge at each other... And then... He ****s off for about 10 minutes. He's just nowhere. You see everyone else, variously fighting against each other, and I kept thinking "oh he must be fighting x/y/z off screen" - but then you would see all of his possible opponents doing something else. I swear, he isn't anywhere to be found, from the start of the fight right up until the point where appears to help against massive-ant-man... A good 2/3 of the way through the battle. Did he go for coffee? Was he overcome with robot lust for Maximoff and had to go and deal with his robot erection? This needs to be explained!

I thought Wanda blasted him away early on. Might be imagining that though
The bunker scene did become more interesting once the twist was revealed but I still think it would have been better if they combined the two battles into one.

Maybe, I was thinking that it would have made sense if there'd even been a two second clip showing that she had disabled the mind stone like she did earlier, and that it took him a while to "reboot" and get back into the fight. That's why I want to see that fight scene again... but I don't remember seeing anything... he was just there, and then, he wasn't. I'm going to have a look at a cam version just to check this specific scene :joker: (and I hate cam rips...)

Yeah... he disappears. :joker:. Flies off to the top of the screen during the "charge", then you don't see him again for most of the battle... but, you see everyone else doing something else, including Scarlet Witch, within a few seconds of that scene... baffling!
