I'm all for life without parole in certain circumstances, certainly not for that one though

The USA are fans of super long jail sentences with the highest prison population per capita (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_incarceration_rate) in the world but it obviously doesnt act as a deterrent but it is a good money spinner though as prisons in the USA run by companys earn (https://smartasset.com/insights/the-economics-of-the-american-prison-system) $74billion a year for incarcerating people.
Prison = profit in the USA good ol capitalism at its finest.

I agree and the alarming thing is, our prison systems are slowly being turned over to the private sector too :fist:

I think it's utterly reprehensible to condemn a child to life without parole regardless of the crime. Children can be redeemed, they can grow and learn more so than adults. I think any judge that would do that to a child is a monster, especially in this case when it's ultimately the fault of the state for failing her in the first place.

I think Life without parole is an acceptable punishment for adults that commit unforgivable crimes but it should not happen to kids.

Sentencing a person under the age of majority is difficult to understand. Fully accept and support it for adults though.

Especially in that girls case where she murdered her pimp who had trafficked her at the age of 11 or something, poor girl

Yes it sounds awful. Killing a pimp should GET you parole.

I think it's a good thing in some cases ,some crimes committed are so abhorrent that life should mean life , I think we are way too soft here ,it comes to something when you get longer for burglary than taking someone's life .

My feelings exactly, I am fed up coming across violent offenders getting probation or suspended sentences and those committing financial crimes getting a custodial sentence.

It happens on a daily basis, often relying on what mood the Magistrates are in or if a Judge has a had a good nights sleep.

Got any examples of that happening? I always roll my eyes when people say we're too soft here, been to prison lately? It's not the holiday resort you make it out to be.

To sentence a kid to life without parole is monstrous and cruel, there should always be a chance of release for them

It was very hard to watch that video, it may have been a premeditated crime but that was not an innocent she murdered...everyone has a breaking point.

If you can't do the time, don't do the crime.

people know the chances of receiving such a sentence and we should bring the uk into line with the american system as i think it would deter many more uk citizens than it does american ones.

that was very vague over how she murdered the pimp? how on earth do pimps get away with such abuse too? surely more detail on how she killed the pimp and what lead up to it is crucial in evaluating her degree of guilt

The only reason for giving someone life without parole is if that person poses a threat to other people.
The judicial system in America is seriously flawed. Some states have the system of 'three strikes and it's a life sentance', regardless of the severity of the crime.

...what makes this case even more wrong and life without parole so flawed is that I was reading a murder-pedia about Sara Kruzan and the jury was never allowed to be made aware in court that George Howard was her pimp or his grooming of her...so the verdict they reached which led to her sentence of life without parole, was because the murder had been so premeditated and putting George as such an 'innocent' victim ...
