As the title says, what religion (or denomination of religion) do you identify with, if you do?

I am the founder (and messiah) of Thoysuljerism. Don't have very many followers yet but we're an enthusiastic bunch with a can-do attitude. And yes, I know the stats, most startup religions go faithrupt in their first year, and I must admit I've had some bad experiences in starting religions in the past, but I have a really good feeling about this one.

i would've voted anti theist but as much as i think the whole religion thing is a bit loopy and wouldn't object to getting rid of all of it the google definition thing says it's people who actively oppose religion and i don't really care that much to actually bother speaking out against it so i'll just stick to nice simple atheism

I believe we all go to the stars when we die, i believe in angels, and i feel strangely emotional and choked up when i go into a church, i believe in reincarnation, i align myself more with the Buddhist philosophy, so i don't know where that leaves me with what religion i am, i guess i believe in my instincts because they are my truth

I believe we live and then we die like everything else. So just enjoy your life but also have the freedom to choose to believe in whatever you want too whilst never trying to convert others to follow what you believe is right for you, for me, you only get one life so make sure you have fun with it and enjoy every second of it.

I don't believe in any god really but when someone dies I still like to believe that they go to heaven. There are some things that have happened in the past where I've thought, omg is that a sign? (Like when gay marriage was legalised in the states and one of the biggest churches had rainbow over it for most of the day <3)

But yeah I kind of wish there was something, but deep down I believe there isnt

Teen atheist. Turned on to hodgepodge, vague beleifs in the transcendental through years of funny business. Was obsessed with Krishna for awhile. Buddhism is literally zero craic. Tried to come to Jesus loads because some of the New Testament is profoundly beautiful and I needed the help but I couldn't keep it up (heh).

Now I don't care. I'm open minded but basically faithless and in the same lager nihlist stew most people around me are in. I'm mostly happy.

Got sorted into Ravenclaw, alright.

I believe that religious doctrine restricts true human understanding of existence by negating the NEED for truth by filling in the blanks with pretty, or violent, stories. I think it, by necessity, places limits on us - both as individuals, and as a collective - and that our species will be completely "stuck in a rut" on a philosophical level until we move on and seek another form of enlightenment that doesn't come from dusty old books written by fearful men thousands of years ago.

I believe that there is so much more to the universe / multiverse than what is in these basic, human-centric teachings to the extent that I actually find it quite depressing that billions upon billions of people freely believe that "the answers are in there". What a crock of ****.

So yeah... I guess I probably am an anti-theist. At least, in every meaningful way when it comes to organised religions and pre-defined gods.

I'm an Atheist which is ironic cause my entire family are Christian. When I lived at home I stayed at the house while they went to church. I just do see how a god could exist. During school we would learn about the big band theory and then have religion which disagree with each other's belief. My family are both Christians and Bogans so gay isn't something that happens in my family. I'm fine with it but my family isn't.

The question was...what religion are you? not what religion are you, please expand why or why not and while you are at it have a pop at anyone who doesn't share your view.. It's not as if religion hasn't been debated ad infinitum before and it's interesting that it's always the non believers who want to have a pop, I put down catholic as I was born into a catholic family, I'm pretty much a Christmas and Easter catholic now and going for me is more about ritual than believing if you see what I mean so I don't need to be preached at :idc:

Yeah I'm kind of on the fence myself. I probably am directly opposed to the likes of Islam (look no further than their attitude to women for one) but I'm not arsed to the extent where I'm actively taking a stance and buying into religious hatred and all that.

I'm anti-theist in the sense of having no respect for much of organised religion but that doesn't mean I don't acknowledge people's right to personal faith or respect people who deserve it regardless of what religion they follow.

Like I said, if you want to just answer polls and not expand on your answer (or not read other people expanding on theirs) then you'd probably be better seeking out "polls" forum, rather than a debates one.

That said, if you don't want to debate or discuss, that's fine... Answer the poll and leave the thread? If other people want to elaborate, they shouldn't have to stop themselves for fear of you whining about it...

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'd class myself as an atheist Marsh. Not all atheists are intolerant arseholes. The fact that I respect personal faith and people deserving of it doesn't detract from me still not believing any of it myself.

I still class myself as Cherie does as a Roman Catholic, all my Family are and I was born into that Christian faith.
I don't hold to all the teachings of the RC faith but still go to Church at Easter and Christmas.

Happy with that, most people who align themselves with religion pick and choose the bits they like, I know a lot of Muslims who don't observe Ramadan but still consider themselves Muslim and so on.

But by adding sub categories you are excluding some of us. I belong to the independent dissenting and restoration tradition which mean none of the categories above apply to me. I do not consider myself a protestant because they came out of the Protestant Reformation and the tradition I come from came from the Restoration Movement. There should have been Christian, with no qualifier.

With regard to Islam, why no sub category for Sufi?

In the Judaism category, you are lumping the Orthodox Jews with the Reform Jews.

This poll is flawed, either have all the sub categories or none.

Yeah, I'm not sure how many Sufi Muslims there are on one big brother forum. I'm hardly likely to list every single known denomination of every branch of religion on a poll with limited options.
