first title:
Fracking Given Green Light In North Yorkshire

[Councillors have approved an
application by a UK company
to frack for shale gas near the
village of Kirby Misperton in North Yorkshire.
Third Energy has become the
first company to be given the
go-ahead for fracking, which
has not taken place in the UK
since 2011.
Five years ago, tests on
the Fylde coast in Lancashire
were found to have been the
likely cause of minor earthquakes in the area.]

They should start this malarkey in the middle of nowhere, not so close to those beautiful villages.

Yet another law sneaked in by the backdoor that hasn't become fully apparent until recently. If this was deliberately hidden from publicity and hushed up rather than being open to public debate then shame on this government.

“Third Energy has been drilling wells and producing gas safely and discreetly from this site in Kirby Misperton for over 20 years and we will continue to maintain the same standards in the future.”

We've never had a voice :(

The govt are going all out for shale, there's not a lot we can do about it I'm not saying councils were bribed, but that's how it appears to me.

This feels like a very bad idea to me. I don't have any science really to go on, just a feeling that the process sounds very bad for the environment.

There is a study not yet published (USA) on the affect on drinking water fracking can have. Once published that will have a big influence one way or tuther. Could be the green light we need in the UK

We are an island and that makes our water table much more vulnerable than the USA where they have huge expanses of land. We shouldn't apply any USA study to our own country.

Oh - I see now. Yes, that is THE only consideration. Thank you.

By the way, I vehemently oppose Fracking and have long added my name to petitions opposed to it.

The reason it pisses me off so much, is because I live in one of the towns that the government wants to drill, they've caused numerous tremors and I don't want them ****ing up the water table here. It's really annoying because, the town, the town council and the county council rejected it, by Westminster ignored the wishes of its electorate and their own MPs just so they could line their pockets.

Can you please stick to the topic, I see you have an agenda and are eager to bait me as a Labour supporter.

As said replace them with a party that will not allow govt to ride roughshod over mainly northern communities.

Up to your old tricks again.

All I did was ask a perfectly reasonable question which WAS on topic. You said 'Get rid of this government' and I asked; " And replace it with?????"

Which of the current abysmal Political Parties could replace the Tories - as dismal as they themselves are proving to be in Government in a lot of ways (NOT all ways but a lot)

Now is that NOT a legitimate question on an SD Forum?

On the subject of 'Baiting', it is YOU who has sprung up on to 3 different SD threads today and singled my posts out to 'have a go at' - posts which did not involve you and were not even aimed at you.

I dealt with them 'good naturedly' in the interests of 'Forum Harmony' but now you are ludicrously and falsely accusing me of baiting you.

Change the record.

Nope, the topic is fracking you didn't even attempt to address that issue..
I am entitled to have a say on any topic and that's just what I did today.

You highlighted the fact you were a Christian to suggest I was bating you due to that...Here I mirrored that back to you to suggest that you are using the fact I'm a labour supporter to bait me.

Not that ludicrous is it?
But 'good natured' as I am, I'll let it slide.. this time.
