Russia abandons Eurovision. This was reported Russian Prime Minister Dmitrie Medvedev, who has confirmed to Associated Press that the decision was made after the victory of Ukraine on 14 May.

"This is not the best song, if not dirty people, politics and LGBT sect. Therefore we will not participate in 2017," he argued. Public television, so far, has not ruled on the matter.

The country is leaving after this year got a third with the song "You Are The Only One" of Sergey Lazarev.

I wouldn't miss them, don't think I've ever liked an entry of theirs, the overhype for their dross this year was sickening.

No problem, could hardly see them going to Ukraine next year anyway.

I wouldn't want to see Eurovision ended,I applaud the time it has been going.

It was a good show overall this year so long may it continue.

How would they like it if they was the UK then when we threw out Molly and we only got 17th?

Tbh Russia's song was weaker than Ukraine's vocally, Musically, and lyrically, so I don't see the problem with Ukraine beating them this year?

Imo Ukraine was one of the better entries this year so even though they wasn't my personal choice, I was happy for them to win because Jamala was still really good for them.

Australia lived off Dami's vocal rather than the song on Eurovision Song Contest.

The Ukraine song was d r e a d f u l... Eurovision was set up in the 1950s in a post-war Europe to bring together countries in peace and song. So... Ukraine, knowing Russia is participating, enter a song called 1944, all about Stalin's murder and deportation of the tatars.

It's awful now. The year is the first time for years I never had a Eurovision party, nor did I go to one.

3rd.

But yeah, Russia can go. Their entries are usually overhyped and overproduced. It would release a lot of public votes and thus make the competition more exciting too.

I was going to say, it would be a better show without most of Eastern Europe + Russia, sadly. The second half of the show, anyway. The songs themselves are still always fin, and the diversity and inclusion is great: but their voting is a joke. The results are predictable and have nothing to do with the quality of the song (the win should, of course, go to the campest and cheesiest song on offer).

I've been pro-Jedward since their X Factor stint :flutter:. Lipstick is clearly the best Eurovision song ever made.

If Australia is allowed, then Canada and America should be allowed, at least we are part of NATO.
