The format is pretty much the same. The same boys with toys show but I think these presenters are a bit less annoying than the old ones.

I never enjoyed it in the past because Hammond and Clarkson both piss me off so this is a lot better for me. I'm sure it'll get criticism for not being the same though (when it basically is)

Its getting slaughtered on DS. Strange when its more or less the same show but its looks like Clarksons little army love him more than life itself.
Drew.

Clarkson, Hammond and May will never be topped. Even if the show is more or less the same the presenting is what counts and Chris Evans is a grade A tosser who nobody will warm to

-in the minority that doesn't really mind him-
TGI Fridays is a great show. They're a bit rusty atm chemistry wise on this but everything is in the first episode. Just look at Breaking Bad/Game of Thrones :hee:

Evans always has great original ideas on his shows like TFI and dont forget your toothbrush so a little surprised he's doing the same show Clarkson did. Also a bit surprised he would agree to that.
I thought Matt LeBlanc was good but not sure about him and Evans together as a team.
The show is getting slaughtered on DS and twitter. It seems many made up their minds less than five minutes into the show, even though its the same show fundamentally, and the main arguments seem to be against Evans. Understandable as he is not everyone taste. I quite like Evans but can see why others really do not like him.
Marsh.

Chris Evans isn't my favourite person but he's miles better than the scraggly old scrotum that is Jeremy Clarkson. How anyone can "warm" to that I've no idea.

Same, Hammond even more so towards the end, he was just trying to be a Clarkeson mini me and a total Clarkeson lick arse along with it (maybe he was afraid of getting punched :worry: )
Anyway i love Chris Evans and Matt Le Blanc so it worked for me

I know right?
But yeah, I don't get the hate Chris Evans gets, he's always been one of my favorite presenters

I hated it. Its just the old show with a lot worse presenters. Evans shouting - its just the TFI Evans trying to do a pastiche of TG
Dreadful mess
and then I heard he was getting that girl from Texas on the show

Well I watched it a couple of hours after everyone else (Indy 500 took priority), and whilst I don't have the extreme dislike for it that a lot of those on social media do I am also the first to admit that there were a number of issues.
Firstly though the positives. Like a lot of people I was very surprised by how well Matt did on his first episode. Yes his presenting style in the studio was very wooden but I think during the VT's he had a wry sense of humour that delivered some of the best laughs of the show, particularly the straight-faced hyperbolic descriptions he gave to the paparazzi before the challenge. Sabine was great in spite of not having that much airtime and I quite liked Rory and Harris on Extra Gear, the side show I feel could be a trump card for the main show in that it offers the producers an opportunity to experiment and try new things that I can imagine being part of the main show soon. I also like how the weakest segment of the old show (SIARPC) has been given the refresh that it has long needed.
Now for the negatives, and in particular Evans. Now I have to admit that I do listen to Chris Evans on Radio 2 and think that he is a fantastic radio broadcaster and deserving of the listener-ship that he has earned since taking over from Terry Wogan, but when it comes to television I feel that his presentation style has a very narrow niche which is awkward when in the wrong surroundings, it happened with the One Show and I feel that it happened here. Whether it was pre-recorded or in the studio it felt as if he was trying to hard to play his wacky zany persona whilst also attempting to ape Clarkson's presenting style, with neither ever feeling overly natural, the only time he seemed OK was during the interviews with Ramsey and Heisenberg, but even then that was ruined by him turning it into a studio vote over who had the better car. On that same subject the audience interaction just didn't work for me, I know this was something Clarkson and co used to do but it was very much in small doses, and not the whooping screeching mess it felt like at times.
As for the segments as I mentioned previously I enjoyed the Hammond-esque Nomad piece, elements of the Dodge piece were decent enough and I felt that the Britain vs America stuff did get better by the second half (John Anderson!) but throughout there was always this spark missing that made the whole thing feel a tad second rate. Whilst I know a lot of this will be down to it being the first series I just know that Clarkson and Co would have made something out of the drive to Blackpool in a way that Chris and Matt weren't able to to.
That being said though a lot of the major flaws of the show are things which I still feel can be tweaked. I think Evans will tone down his persona as the feedback from episode one comes in and I expect the members of the B-team being integrated into the studio segments a bit more. For all the criticisms that people have thrown at the show I remember how terrible Season One of the 2002 Clarkson era was and how they honed that into being such a success. It's going to take a while, even two series, but I'm going to tune in next week keep backing the team to turn it around.

I didnt like the show and that is my prerogative. I found James May moderately likeable and completely disliked the other two dickheads. It reminded me of when Friends ended and they put on the spin-off, Joey, instead. Where Joey had moved to Los Angeles, and him and Chandler were no-longer friends.
I only watched one episode of that.
I didn't watch it so really have no right to comment but so many people were going to hate it no matter what that it was always going to struggle. Also to read social media, online forums, tabloids etc. you'd think that Chris Evans was universally hated but actually his radio show has gone from strength to strength, the listeners have continued to increase and far more people tune in than they do to R1 and than they did to when Wogan presented it. I'd say generally he's more respected than is made out and I'm sure the new Top Gear will do fine once it finds it feet and when people realise that Clarkson et al were really not that mind blowing in what they did

I didn't watch the old series of Top Gear because I cannot stand Jeremy Clarkson and will not watch anything with him in it.
I missed this first one but will likely now watch it now the motormouth has gone from it.

It was like some kind of comic relief joke.I managed 20 mins or so on iPlayer and can honestly say i'll never watch it again.Just a crappy replica of Top Gear.It needs to be scrapped. However much some people may not like Jezza,He WAS Top Gear. The show can never work without him. This spin off was a shambles.
Can't wait for the new Clarkson,Hammond and May show.Hopefully that will take a large number of the proper Top Gear fans and the BBC realise their mistake and stop trying to copy what was once a great show.

A mess. I don't watch it but apparently last night only got 1.59m which is an all time low for the show. It was opposite the footy but it's still miles from where it should be.

No surprise. The show with him was awful, no cars were actually reviewed with comment about how they compared to others, how they handled in comparison - Clarkson is a seasoned motoring journalist - Evans is a shouting radio jockey.
All the other presenters need also to go save Matt who should join up with JC, May and Hammond in a guest role.
To sack JC for a non work related affray but to hire what seems to be, based on some pretty solid and graphic accusation, a sex predator is utterly disgusting
After Sir Cliff and Tony Blackburn the BBC are in the total gutter
Disgraceful
The way Evans has been treated by the media is pretty disgraceful imo, had his character completely assassinated for months because he had the audacity to take up a job offer for a vacant role and try and do his best with it. He's probably made the right decision though, he's successful enough anyway that he doesn't really need Top Gear for all the grief its caused him

I mean i'm no fan of Evans admittedly but why ever he's been sacked or quit or whatever and whoever they try next.I just honestly can't see the show working without the original gang presenting it.It will always just be an inferior copy.Fifth Gear on C5 used to even be better than what Top Gear has become now.

Seems to be turning around, I actually thought myself after watching the most recent episode that the three guys seemed to be gelling with eachother alot more, looks like other people think the same
:
Viewers tuned into another post-Chris Evans episode with Matt LeBlanc and Chris Harris.
The fourth episode of the new series (the 24th, but who’s counting?) saw the boys take part in a race across the Arabian peninsula, as you do.
Elsewhere co-host Rory Reid created a life-size arcade came to put city cars through their paces, and British rapper Tinie Tempah stopped by to have a crack at the Top Gear track in a Toyota GT86.
When the second series of the TG reboot launched viewers were loving the new team, and didn’t even miss oldheads Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May.
And from the reaction on social media, Matt, Chris and Rory should probably thinking about sticking around for a third run.
Fans praised the latest episode as ‘solid’ and ‘the best episode yet’, with some going as far as declaring it ‘better than The Grand Tour’.
One wrote on Twitter: ‘Seriously tho, new old Top Gear is crushing it…it’s a car show again!’
Another posted: ‘Top Gear is great back to real motor journalism, with a bit of fun.’
‘Is it wrong that I’m loving the new Top Gear and think it’s way better than the Grand Tour?’ another tweeted.
And the praise kept coming…
