The welsh singing in yesterdays euro 2016 is the greatest Ive ever heard at any sporting match.....Tuneful soulful word perfect throughout the match and beyond, even the trumpeters were fantastic. it truly is the land of song. This is how supporters should behave, meanwhile those rioting England fans are you watching? Your pathetic riots and bigoted rants do not represent England or wales or the UK. They do not represent patriotism, they just represent ignorance as you embarrass your nation. But you've had enough cheap attention , back to the magnificent welsh fans. The French were so impressed they even lit up the eiffel tower for us....In France , Wales is known as pay de galles which means our gallic friends. Cymru am byth, vive le France.

Anyone blaming the violence on England fans either haven't seen the footage of what went on or is letting their dislike for English fans overshadow the truth (which is ironic)
French youths got together in their hundreds in planned attacks and chased English fans all around the streets of Marseille last night putting about 20 fans in hospital. Then theres the Russian ultras that traveled over armed with knifes & without tickets just to fight. Ofc there are a handful of English fans that got involved but nearly all of them were ambushed/didn't start any of it

the point im making is the england fans have amongst them a large group of violent hateful bigoted morons and they must be rooted out , locked away and banned for life. apologist nonsense... There are 100s of violent idiotic football hooligans amongst the english fans and have been for decades. Yes they are a small minority relative to the thousands of good english fans, but they are still there and still causing massive damage and dragging englands name through the mud. their bigoted rants their aggression and hatemongering has destroyed many football occasions. It's not uniquely English, but it's certainly not true that it plagues "every team's support" to the same extent. England has a significant problem with both football hooliganism AND many "normal" non-violent fans nonetheless being disrespectful of host countries / cities, and anyhone who denies that is firmly burying their head in the sand .
What is true, though, and very sad, is that there do seem to be a lot of people who have done nothing wrong at all caught in the crossfire of these violent alteractions - and those people are the most likely to end up getting hurt.

Its a deep rooted problem unique to english culture. anyone who has ever been to the med or around europe on holiday will testify to the appalling behaviour of gangs of englishmen....it simply doesnt happen with our nationalities, the scots welsh and irish simply sing together, the rest keep themselves to themselves. its bizarre , is it something to do with the fall of empire or what?
Please. Because those Old Firm games are so peaceful and friendly. And the likes of Cardiff and Wrexham don't have any violence amongst their fans at all.
I remember in the 2012 Euros seeing England and Sweden fans singing Wonderwall together a few hours before we played them. Yes there's been big problems with hooliganism in English football in the last thirty years but its nowhere near as bad now as it used to be. These days you will get much worse violence in Eastern Europe and even in places like Italy I would say its worse. And to argue that its a much worse problem in England than the other home nations is bollocks. Its just because we are a bigger nation with a more successful domestic league and a more successful national team that it has always been a bigger issue.

Brits have a bad reputation. Its always convenient for the plucky Scots and Welsh to make out that they're distinct from the drunken English idiots and not associated with it but its rubbish really. I'm afraid you as Scotsman are just as implicated as I am. If people think its more of an English problem again I would say thats because of England being a bigger nation and because of how a lot of people wrongly conflate the UK with England.

Globally maybe, within Europe (and actually France, especially) there is a definite distinction, to the extent that French people will express feeling sorry for the Scots, being "stuck with the English". I'm genuinely not saying it to be offensive... my wife is English ... I just prefer accuracy and am not inclined to shy away from it for fear of hurting feelybobbers.

Well this stuff is always anecdotal so I'm not sure how accurate it is really. I've never felt prejudiced against around Europe for being English or that I'm missing out on a lot of pally moments with the French. Might sound butthurt but it does often feel like the other home nations see themselves as a more enlightened breed and take solace in being distanced from the knuckle-dragging English when really we're not that different at all. Its not like Scotland and Wales are immune from the things that have caused our bad reputation abroad. Scotland in particular has plenty of its own problems with alcohol, football hooliganism and sectarianism.

Even at the time when hooligans were the norm in football, there was never any problems between Scottish fans and the country they were playing against. It has nothing to do with how often they attend, its a simple fact that people don't see Scottish people as a violent threat, they do see English fans as a threat, and not without reason either.

There's always been problems with violence in Scottish domestic football though. I'm not arguing that English football has never had a big problem with hooliganism - that would obviously be stupid. I didnt say that so youre misreprenting my words in a rather dishonest way, pretty much the straw mans argument....the majority of wesh national football fans are great and you rarely if ever get problems, the problems of viokence and hooliganism is massively worse within english supporters. the welsh had 24000 and as usual no problems at all. overaall and in general they are better behaved fans less prone to hooliganism. the english and russians should be kicked out

Russian Football Union official tells violent fans: keep it up! AFP June 13, 2016 Euro 2016, Russia No Comments
Moscow (AFP) – A senior Russian Football Union official and ultra-nationalist politician said Monday that the country’s fans were right to fight England supporters at Euro 2016.
Igor Lebedev, who sits on the RFU executive committee and is also a deputy speaker in parliament, said on Twitter: “I don’t see anything wrong with fans fighting.”
“Quite the opposite, the guys did well. Keep it up!” said Lebedev, a member of the ultra-nationalist Liberal Democratic Party of Russia headed by his father Vladimir Zhirinovsky.
He said the violence was “not the fans’ fault”. Lebedev blamed French police’s “inability to organise such events.”
Lebedev also claimed in a separate interview with Life.ru tabloid website that Russians were provoked by England supporters and suggested Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko would have enjoyed joining in the clashes.
“I personally think that if Mutko was with the fans on the stands and not an official, he would also go and fight the English fans since they were the ones who started it,” Lebedev said.
Mutko has said Russian hooligans are “disgracing the country” ahead of its 2018 hosting of the World Cup.
Lebedev’s comments came as Russia faces the threat of disqualification from Euro 2016 and a British fan remained in a critical condition after fights in Marseille during and after the England-Russia match on Saturday.
The RFU on Sunday urged fans to behave properly to avoid UEFA sanctions against the national side. UEFA has said Russia and England could face disqualification if there is further fan violence.
Lebedev criticised officials and politicians for “branding our fans,” however. “We need to defend them: they’ll come home and then we’ll work out what happened.”
A Moscow city lawmaker, Maxim Motin, told Dozhd television on Sunday that he witnessed the stadium violence in Marseille and “Russian fans did not do anything criminal or outside the limits.”

The statement read: "The independent UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) met today in Paris to deal with the disciplinary proceedings opened against the Russian Football Union (RFU) following the incidents which occurred inside the Stade Velodrome in Marseille, at the UEFA EURO 2016 match against England on 11 June (1-1).
"Charges relating to crowd disturbances, use of fireworks and racist behaviour had been brought against the RFU, and the CEDB decided to impose the following sanctions:
• A fine of €150,000.
• A suspended disqualification of the Russian national team from UEFA EURO 2016 for the crowd disturbances. In accordance with Article 20 of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations, this disqualification is suspended until the end of the tournament. Such suspension will be lifted if incidents of a similar nature [crowd disturbances] happen inside the stadium at any of the remaining matches of the Russian team during the tournament.

I have a tweet somewhere of the Russian Chief of police saying "there is no trouble just passionate fans defending their country keep it up boys" :joker:
They really are backwards as are those that jump on the England hate bandwagon and just end up looking silly :joker:

I watch a lot of vids of russian hooligans fighting and these chaps are ex military or serving police. They dont drink, they train for combat and they fight in woods each week. They are fit and trained for violence. They dont mind hitting scarfers neither and in general the Russian media and politicians like them.
wait to see what happens if russia get poland
(if that can happen in the draw?)

When did football fans become such sensitive flowers :worry:
My favourite tweet during all this was John from Brighton didn't take a chair to the head for Vardy not to start :joker:
If Russian fans carry on they will be disqualified and possibly vanned so we could get new hosts
that sounds a bit extreme
They do have a hooligan problem, and banning them or disqualifying is the correct response given we want a safe environment for the world cup in a couple of years

Of course we wont see them in the World Cup as the Russian security services will not allow it. The ultras will be visited by security personally at home and told that if they do anything then welcome to 15 summers in Siberia
There will be no problems in Russia

Here's exactly what french football paper L'Equipe said after just the first match...
"A hymn to give you goosebumps, never-ending singing and the impression all you can see is red: the show was also in the stands, yesterday at Bordeaux, where Wales beat Slovakia (2-1) in its first major tournament for 58 years.
"After such a long wait, the fans were thirsty for victory but not only that. The Welsh are many, noisy, sometimes a little rowdy but mostly peaceful. They must tolerate drink better than others. The coach Chris Coleman and the players have all paid tribute to this extraordinary popular support, of the kind that gives you strength and an indestructible confidence.

Just lose the word 'fans' after English :fan:
'The most perfect thing I have ever seen just happened on the replacement train bus service between Newport and Cwmbran:
White man sat in front of a mother and her son. Mother was wearing a niqab. After about 5 minutes of the mother talking to her son in another language the man, for whatever reason, feels the need to tell the woman "When you're in the UK you should really be speaking English."
At which point, an old woman in front of him turns around and says, "She's in Wales. And she's speaking Welsh."

lol sadly you misunderstood livia. The english as the vastly more welthy powerful nation would naturally always get more detractors as those in power always do, as we see with the endless attacks on rich white men, theyre seen as the power base and they get more stick to try and redress the balance. in reality though some english fans have a long history of violence ,maybe they have achip on their shoulder from the fallen empire youll have to tell me why I dont understand it, we see far far less of that from the other home unions. im surprised how sensitive some england fans are to criticism but maybe its a reaction to the overpopulation of england and the loss of sovereignty and the frustration over being disallowed from expressing their patriotism. in that regard they do have my sympathy and to a degree I understand their frustration, england have taken some cheap shots as have all those people in power. if its any consolation when the **** really hist the fan, whether its on the terraces or on the strreets or the battlefield, the welsh ALWAYS been their best most loyal friends https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivz3sieYRrE

No team has looked like hugely worrying
