Why do they call it BIG BROTHER?

I've been wondering? Why did endomol called the show BIG BROTHER? Thinking about the show it like a prison block… No contact to the outside word, obeying strict discipline isn't that prison?

Its from 'Ninety Eighty-Four' by George Orwell. The people were constantly wathed by Big Brother.

In 1984 you could be carried away from your family in the middle of the night for even thinking of doing something wrong-THOUGHTCRIME. prisoners were taken to ROOM 101 (another tv show eh) and tortured with their own personel worst nightmare.......
Orwell was a genius. He saw through the lies of never-ending wars and wrote a book to warn us all of a bleak future where not even love can survive.
