Global Warming

Its the big discussion point on the news today so thought I would find out what you all felt shoud, could will happen.

Also do you think it will make a difference in your lifetime so will you bother to make changes or will you just keep doing what you do now?

According to my mom, there has always been problems (some far worse) when she was young. Snow six foot high, smog etc. I think now it's been raised it's been highlighted more and more.

I don't feel we'll solve the problem in time, especially as third world countries develop! Imagine in fifty years the amount of pollution in the world, it will more then likely double, it's possible!

I'm actually looking forward to 'weird' weather in Britain though. Hot weather will save me going to spain, tornados will save me from getting square eyes and of course everyone will be wearing bakini's like in Miami, rolling about on rollerskates. *dreams*

Untill theres a solution, theres no way we can stop global warming but whats saying it's are doings that are causing it? Could well be something that has been waiting to happen for years i.e ice caps melting (sun + ice = water).

When I was a kid we used to get the most amazing snow! like really DEEP snow, we could get out the polly bags (much better than a boring sledge) Now though the winters are so mild I already have spring flowers peeking through, So they say that is because we have all been sloppy with the way we have looked after the world.

I agree with what you say about the thrid world countries developing, it is a bit of a catch 22 we want them to be self sufficient so they dont have to rely on the rest of the world for financial aid, but in the process it puts more pressure on the atmosphere by the increase in industry.

Surely my non energy light bulbs and car have caused less of a problem than the huge plants that the governments of the world have been responsible for funding. As well as all the weapons they have built and tested into our atmosphere, surely that is more of a problem than the way we live in our homes.

As for the heat, we I say bring it on, I always wanted to move to a hotter country to help with my terrible joints but now I can just loll in my own back garden, last summer was bliss!

I think that the pictures they are showing of the baby polar bears is sad though, their homes are literally disappearing, but will they adapt in the same way many other animlas have adapted?

I even remember the snow when i was little, 1990'ish.. that was a few foot tall and would always fall around Christmas, guarenteed!

I saw that, the polar bears on the ice who are almost certain to either drown or die of starvation. Couldn't help but think, why isn't anybody helping them?! We could surely capture them and airlift/take them to safety?! Or is watching them die the right thing to do?! Hmm! I'm sure they could adapt because after all they are land hunters.

I do agree with weapons and bombs being a major factor, the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki for example must have had a huge effect on the earths atmosphere.

I always used to get scared of this, I used to cry myself to sleep thinking about it when I was much younger lol.

It still is worrying, but I am quite environmentally friendly.

I know I was thinking instead of filiming them surely they could be saving them, now that would be news!!! They are probably no different to any other bear and would adpat pretty quickly. I hate it when they show things like that to tug at the heart strings but have no obvious intention about doing anything to save them.

In the sun today, it said by the end of the century we could have a 4 degree increase in temperature, 43cm rise in sea levels and drought and heatwaves. Now looking at that, some people might be thinking that is nothing but in contrast it is a huge change to life today.

Rising sea levels will submerge lowlands such as the capital, thankfully Birmingham is high up so i won't have to get my dingie out but for alot of people living in costal areas, they'd be forced out.

The one thing i'm not really liking the sound of are the heatwaves and drought. In that article it says that only a few years ago 35,000 people died of these heatwaves. That is shocking and the whole of Britain would have to make dramatic change because we are not used to hot weather!

I do agree we must be doing something to affect the global warning, but i am confooooozed

When we have hot whether you hear the weather person say "This is the hottest May since 1923" Well obviously it was hot then!!

All of the houses had chimneys that blew smog into the air and the trains were steamtrains. We dont have that anymore

I guess its all weird to me, and until it makes sense i am confused!

I do recycle paper as i see the connection between paper and trees.

Well i think everyone complains about it too much and then doesnt do anything to help the problem, i think we need to cut down on oil use buy using ways which dont create greenhouse gases like solar power, geothermal, hydro-electic, wind, tidal etc..... This would be a good way to reduce the amount of greenhouse gages and may save some oil.

I also think we need to try stop brazil and other countries from cutting down as many trees as they are doing, because it is changing the blalance of O2 and CO2. :bigsmile:

Millions of years ago, this planet was mainly ice wasn't it? So........... what exactly is the big deal? It's still melting. It's stilll around and has been for yonks.

What gets me is that whatever the conditions of the planet, it has always survived.

And I think whatever the state of the planet in 10, 20, 50, 100 years time, the human race will learn to adapt to the conditions. It's human nature.

I don't get the big fuss.

Everyone can help in small ways but unless everyone actually acts nothing can be done really. The chance of people NOT using cars isn't going to happen.
