The Prime Minister's Resignation Speech - A personal opinion:
David Cameron has done the decent thing - the only logical thing - in resigning, and I applaud him, not only for making that decision, but also for the dignified manner in which he delivered his speech, and the superb naked honesty of just what he said in it.
David Cameron HAS been an excellent leader of this country - which is why I supported him so passionately - until he sullied his reputation by prostituting his hitherto lofty principles by electing to adopt such a prominent position in the campaign to keep Great Britain in the European Union.
That decision imposed upon him an obligation to secure a 'Remain' victory at all costs, and necessitated him in relating downright lies to the British people, and to practicing a considerable degree of deceit, in addition to him participating in a campaign of scaremongering which was so extreme it was instantly recognised as ludicrous.
Whether he freely chose to indulge in the above, or whether he was coerced by manipulatory advisors to do so, it remains a real shame, that he did involve himself in such unsavoury practices, because those very transgressions were a major factor in the majority of the voting public electing to vote for 'Leave', and - consequentially - to his downfall.
To his credit, Cameron tried eloquently and earnestly in his speech to make amends, by assuring any foreign investors and the international business community, that Great Britain was more than capable of flourishing outside the EU, and that they had nothing to fear concerning our stability or ability.
This WILL restore any lost confidence among the above which the 'Remain' camp's campaign of scaremongering may have created.
The Prime Minister was also correct, and to be applauded, for his sincere appeal to all those who did not support a Brexit, to 'get behind' the 'leave' camp and pull together to ensure the success of this country in its aims.
I have lived through Edward Heath's self confessed treachery in conning us into the 'Common Market', through Thatcher's later confession that she had been 'duped' over the EU, through John Major's treasonous skullduggery in signing the Maastricht Treaty, and through the abhorrent Blair and Brown's self-serving endorsement of an EU which they KNEW was highly damaging to this country, and though David Cameron has made mistakes, he should NOT be placed among the above leaders who failed Britain over the EU.
Instead, we should remember an honourable, charismatic, and highly capable Prime Minister who DID tirelessly work in this country's best interests.
I sincerely wish him and his family well in his retirement, and regret any attacks upon him on my part which may have been too extreme during this exhausting campaign.
We 'Leavers' have 'won' the 'war', it is time to win the peace - no matter how difficult that objective may prove to be.
