View Full Version : Is anyone else fed up with the sound of Nicola Sturgeon's voice

I can't tell you how sick I am of hearing this woman's voice. I am starting to believe if we'd heard a lot less from her during the campaign remain might have won!
On one hand she can't wait to get out of the UK on the other hand she wants to be ruled by the EU. Which makes no sense to me if you really do want to be independent. How are we supposed to feel any kind of affinity to someone who can't wait to see the back of us?

If you think the controls that the EU has over member states are even vaguely comparable to the sway that Westminster has over day-to-day life in Scotland, then you are unaware of just how much control that is. I find it quite funny that the same people who seem to be so pleased about Brexit, were saying a year ago that it was laughable that Scotland would want out of the smaller, and infinitely more controlling, UK union. Pff.

Well exactly... I think people are forgetting that she is still the First Minister of Scotland at that with the political **** hitting the fan she actually has quite a lot of reason to be in the media. She can't flouce off into the sunset like Dropout Dave or go into silent hiding like the Brexit Tories. She was elected to represent the Scottish people, and is doing so, based on the result of the referendum north of the border.

I know that question wasn’t aimed at me but as a Brexit supporter and someone who also stands behind the Scottish leader, I can at least explain my reasoning.
Scotland have one hell of a deficit because the British government failed to protect the Scots when oil prices plummeted. For Scotland to come out of the EU and remain with Britain would ensure economical problems for Scotland. The EU presently give Scotland the protection it needs.
The problem Scotland have with re-joining the EU is, they are a small country with a large deficit and a left wing government...everything the EU isn't interested in.

Indeed.
However I do think, the Scottish voters knew there was a chance the UK would vote out of the EU when they had the last referendum.
I think another referendum would be fair still though, given they have been totally overruled...basically. Same for NI.
I still don't think the majority of Scots would actually go for independence though, especially at a time when EVERYTHING is up in the air. As I understand it too, Scotland would have to 'apply' to be in the Eu also and could be rejected?
Wizard.

They can disagree, but if Nicola ensures Scotland that they can join the EU if they leave the UK, and they leave but Spain veto them joining, then Scotland are stuck in no mans land and may have to face the embarrassment of re joining England, Wales and Northern Ireland which hopefully would result in the sacking of Ms Sturgeon.

many people only voted to stay in the UK because they were promised Scotland would remain in the EU, and support for independence has now surged, so I think most scots disagree with you
There's conflicting polling but what are polls, they got the general election wrong, they got the EU referendum wrong too.
It is time these organisations were controlled and polls banned in the week before polling and to issue a lot less of them too.
However the support for independence while not for sure yet over the 50% margin, has risen to just about that from average polling since the referendum.
You are correct too, as to Scotland believing they would remain in the EU if they rejected independence last time.
Again from the shocking polling,at the time of the referendum in Scotland, no party looked like having a hope of getting an overall majority in the election of May last year.
So no expectation in reality of a EU referendum was on the cards, also the Scots were told by English politicians and govt, that the best way to secure their future in the EU was to vote to stay in the UK.
Nicola is right, they were misled and indeed a 2nd independence is in order if the Scots want one.
She has a mandate for it, if there is a major change, she got 47% in the elections to Holyrood earlier this year and she also has the Greens who also supported another independence referendum, if a major change came about.
Honestly no wonder England voted to leave the EU,it cannot even stand its own other Nations in the UK,with some of the acidic comments made about Scotland.
Really awful, United kingdom, more like severely Disunited Kingdom, unless it appears all the rest of the UK follows only England's will.

She forgets over 1m voted to LEAVE,with only 67% bothering to even vote ........ She doesn't speak for the Scottish people
How is that she should be taking notice of the 38% who voted leave,67% turnout is still better than the UK often gets in general elections to elect its whole government, it is two thirds of the population who are eligible to vote.
Why should it be that all anyone now has to do is accept in full with no other analysis,a very narrow 4% win for leave.
Had had this been a 4% win for remain, the cries for a further referendum would have been likely deafening from the leave side, in my view view rightly too, and the cause not given up on at all, they would be pointing to the fact that 2 Nations voted to leave too.
Nicola Sturgeon leads the Nation that had the biggest margin result in the referendum, a 24% majority to remain.
Of course as Scotland's leader she has to act on that.
The next highest margin result of this referendum, was Northern Ireland who voted by by a margin of 11% to remain.
The 2 weaker results came from Wales with a 5% majority to leave and in fact England with only a 6.8% majority to leave too.
England only carrying this because it is the larger populated Nation in the UK
This referendum has only opened up more divisions than it settled but no one please try to tell me had this been a 4% win for remain, that all sorts of arguments would not be coming forward from most on the leave side, particularly highlighting the fact 2 Nations had voted to leave too.
No one is saying England and Wales will not be leaving the EU, however if she can Nicola sturgeon has to do all she can from her result, to protect any status she can as to Scotland remaining in the EU.
That she owes to the clear and decisive 64% who voted to remain.
A narrow 4% win for leave with 2 Nations voting to remain, is not an overwhelming result, even Boris Johnson admits that.
Had this been reversed, the same division and doubt and analysis over the result would have been justified too in my opinion.

I think a good proportion of the English already hate the Scots (along with everyone else), so why not? England for the English, all Englandy with its Englishness in isolation. Bliss, surely?
That's racism right there projected and real.
