Sounds Tasty.

I agree. We must cook chicken properley - Ask Shilpa. I think with most of these food scares it's all about common sense.

I dont think there is much to worry about. It too hard for it to pass to humans and if you always cook your poultry good you'll be fine!

I`m not worried about poultry at the moment, but I was a bit concerned when they showed the shed where two thousand turkeys died, I noticed about fifty seagulls on the roof!!!

I freaked out when my bloke ate a Bernard Matthews ham and cheese slice the other day cos I was scared he might have bird flu (you may laugh but honestly, I was beside myself worrying!)

I normally like chicken and white meats, so hopefully it won't put me off, but saying that I did stop eating beef during the BSE crisis some years ago!

Its all getting more serious now.
Firstly they have linked the flu as coming from Hungary, where B.Mathews do business.
3 more sheds at B. Mathews have H5N1.As I see it,they will find it
near on impossible to contain this within one farm, but the next few days will tell ???

Edit: The thought is that dead poultry was imported to the Uk
from Hungary for resale!!This happened at the middle to end of January. The two outbreaks of flew are known to almost certainly match exactly.

It's worrying, but it doesn't put me off eating chicken. This may sound weird as well, but I don't tend to think of chicken meat coming from birds!

Haha it's like that episode in Friends with Joey, and he was laughing saying nobody eats bird apart from duck or something, and he says, sarcastically, 'Yeah can I have a bucket of fried bird?' Then says, 'Or maybe just a wing or...wait....'

On a more serious note, I tend to be more aware yeah, but I do still eat chicken if I know it's come from a suitable place - but then that's always been the case.

And I've never been a fan of any other type of bird meat, so that doesn't affect me personally. However I would imagine the same necessary precautions are taken.

Its really starting to put me off my Bernard Mathews wafer thin turkey ham.

The thing is they are saying it is fine to eat the meat currently in the shops, and really we should try not to panic about things. I shall continue to eat poultry until told not to, and lets face it the prices will drop!!!

I'm not worried at all, still eating chicken as normal.

I`m still fine with chicken,I wouldn`t eat turkey for a while but accept that if cooked properly there is definitely no problem. The worry is that if it were to spread amongst the birds it becomes far more likely that some people would catch it just on probability terms. This has afterall killed quite a lot of humans in other countries and if it ever mutated to pass from human to human, then it becomes a nightmare.

I usually eat Bernard Mathews meat but since reading about the factory I haven't touched the stuff "just to be safe". They say the shop stuff is fine to eat but I would rather stay safe than sorry.

I (hardly) ever buy cooked meat anyway - if you cook it yourself you can be sure it is cooked properly. Though I sometimes buy those 90secs microwave burgers - handy.

I'm not too worried about bird flu, more concerned with hygiene in butchers shops - there have been a few e-coli outbreaks.

I practically gave up beef because of BSE - stupid I know.

Never eat Bernard Matthews produce, but do like his turkey drumsticks. They're boooooootiful! Never eat turkey, but it won't put me off other meat. The thing is, that white meat, like chicken (drool), needs to be cooked properly. It's different with red meats, like beef (slurp), as I like mine medium rare. I always make sure chicken is cooked properly by making sure that when I stab it with a fork, that no blood comes out, and only clear liquid (as my mother taught me)! Cookery lesson over for today! If you are unsure, my advice is to overcook it, rather than undercook it. I do the same with eggs, just slightly overcook them, but I do love a runny yoke (yum yum). I am now salivating and need to go and get something to eat!

Bernard Matthews stuff is overpriced

Like James I tend to cook stuff myself, being something of a scratch cook

If I have cooked meats for sandwiches I either get it from the co-op or a certain stall on Grainger Market in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Sometimes I have even cooked the meat myself, but I have already said that.

On the bird flu front, it is worth noting that the great flu epedemic of 1918 which killed more people than World War One, was a form of Bird Flu, and I did here that they kept samples to this day of that virus.
