Can we not have a special section like we have now for serious debates, because people may want to discuss the lives of the various people covered in the death announcements.
If it is in just one thread that kind of gets lost.

It is a "topped topic" in that it will always be at the top the General Chat Forum so people can find it. Lets see how it works. If the people that have died cause a lot of debate then your suggestion is something we will seriously look at.

"On February 8, 2007, Smith was found unresponsive in a room of the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida. She was rushed to hospital. A witness told local media that paramedics were pumping her chest when they took her out of the hotel. She was later pronounced dead by doctors. Howard Stern, lawyer and unofficial husband, is suspected of murder."

Slightly longer story
Anna Nicole Smith dead at 39
Anna Nicole Smith died Thursday after collapsing at a hotel and being being rushed to the hospital, one of her lawyers said.
Smith collapsed in her room at the Hard Rock Cafe and Casino in Hollywood, Fla., and was rushed to a hospital on Thursday. A Hollywood, Fla., fire department spokesman told MSNBC TV that the actress was unresponsive when the rescue unit arrived on the scene and had been intubated. Smith was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital shortly after 2 p.m. EST and attorney Ron Rail confirmed that she had died nearly an hour later.
On Tuesday, Smith and the diet products company TrimSpa Inc., for which she is a spokeswoman, were sued in a class-action lawsuit alleging their marketing of a weight loss pill is false or misleading.
Smith also was order by a judge to have baby daughter undergo paternity testing. The test is being sought by Smith's former boyfriend Larry Birkhead, who claims he is the father of Dannielynn Hope Marshall Stern. She was born Sept. 7 in the Bahamas.
Less than a week after the birth of her daughter, Smith's 20-year-old son Daniel died in her hospital room while visiting Smith after the birth. An coroner's report ruled the death was caused by an overdose of anti-depressants and methadone.
Smith married Texas oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall II in 1994, when she was 26 and he was 89. He died the following year.
She then feuded with Marshall's son, Pierce Marshall, over her entitlement to the tycoon's estate before he died in June at the age of 67.
In the long-running dispute, Smith had won a $474 million judgment, which was later cut to about $89 million and eventually reduced to zero. In May, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Smith could continue to pursue the fortune in federal courts in California despite a Texas state court ruling that Marshall's youngest son was the sole heir.

A bit more in this story on her life
Anna Nicole Smith Dies
Anna Nicole Smith, the former Playboy playmate whose bizarre life careened from marrying an octogenarian billionaire to the untimely death of her son, died Thursday after collapsing at a South Florida hotel, one of her lawyers said.
Smith, 39, collapsed and was unresponsive while staying at the Seminole Hard Rock Cafe Hotel and Casino, said the attorney, Ron Rale. She was rushed to a hospital.
"She checked in Monday at 8 p.m. as a guest. She was due to check out tomorrow," said Danielle Giordaano, a spokeswoman for the hotel.
Smith had been a tabloid staple even before she became Playboy's playmate of the year in 1993. Readers were fascinated by her bombshell good looks, her marriage to an elderly billionaire and subsequent court fight over his estate, her weight fluctuations, and last year, the sudden death of her 20-year-old son, Daniel Smith.
A former topless dancer, she made her name squeezing into Guess jeans. She resembled the late actress Marilyn Monroe, a similarity played up in her Guess magazine ads, billboards and department store displays.
In 1994, she married 89-year-old oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall II, the head of oil-based Koch Industries, which is part of a family fortune worth at least $400 million.
He died in 1995, setting off a feud with her former stepson, E. Pierce Marshall, over whether she had a right to his estate.
A federal court in California awarded Smith $474 million in a complicated legal twist that began after she declared bankruptcy. That was later overturned.
But in May, the U.S. Supreme Court revived her case, ruling that she deserved another day in court in her battle with her former stepson.
The justices said only that federal courts in California could deal with her case despite a Texas state court ruling that Marshall was the sole heir to the estate.
Then, the stepson died June 20 at age 67. But the family said the court fight would continue.
Daniel Smith died Sept. 10 in his mother's hospital room in the Bahamas, just days after she gave birth to a daughter.
An American medical examiner hired by the family, Cyril Wecht, said he had methadone and two antidepressants in his system when he died. Low levels of the three drugs interacted to cause an accidental death, Wecht said.
Meanwhile, the paternity of her now 5-month-old daughter remained a matter of dispute.
She was born Vickie Lynn Hogan on Nov. 28, 1967, in Houston, one of six children of Donald Eugene and Virgie Hart Hogan.
She married Bill Smith in 1985, giving birth to Daniel before divorcing two years later.

According to numerous posts on the internet, she's died at age 39!
HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (AP) - Anna Nicole Smith, the pneumatic blonde whose life played out as an extraordinary tabloid tale - Playboy centerfold, jeans model, bride of an octogenarian oil tycoon, reality-show subject, tragic mother - died Thursday after collapsing at a hotel. She was 39.

But if someone wanted to discuss more of the life of say Brian Williams, it would now seem out of place amongst the discussion of Anna Nicole Smith. PLus if there is an announcement of the death of someone else, how would we know it was that and not more discussion about the people already mentioned?
This is why it is better to have separate threads for different obituries and possibly in it's own section like the serious debates. Is there a bandwifth issue over having more than one thread?

I see you point Sticks, but having lots of topics with one or two replies that get lost in general chat doesn't work either. It might not be as bad now as the topics don't move so fast but while the show is on it's hard to spot the announcements of peoples passing. At least by having just the one thread they are all contained in one place in General Chat in a topic that is at the top of the forum.
I have edited the the topic this morning and added subjects to all the posts. I'm shortly going to add a rule to Sunny's first post stating that members should include the name of the person they are talking about in the subject line and how to do it and I will repeat this after this post. This way as you read through the topic and you will know who people are talking about. In addition to this I will check the topic to make sure the rules are being followed and make edits accordingly and I'm sure other moderators will do the same.
Yes there was confusion about where to post the Anna Nicole Smith but that is understandable since so many death announcements have appeared in General Chat recently. But the announcement was quickly moved to the right place by myself as was the second topic that started on her death.
It's going to take time for people to get use to the new system, but like everything that is new there will be problems to start with but let us not give up on the idea of a single thread yet.

According to press reports this morning coming out the United States the autopsy of Anna Nicole Smith will be carried out later today to determine the cause of death. The results of the autopsy would probably be announced quickly if her death was from natural causes however any definitive results could take weeks.

A sad day for British Theatre. He will be missed by many.
Actor Ian Richardson dead at 72
Actor Ian Richardson, best remembered as the Machiavellian chief whip Francis Urquhart in landmark BBC drama House Of Cards, died today at the age of 72.
Richardson died in his sleep at his London home in the early hours of this morning.
His death came as a shock as he had not been ill and was due to begin filming his next role in TV show Midsomer Murders next week, his agent said.
His TV performances included the mole Bill Haydon in John Le Carre spy thriller Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, Sir Godber Evans in Porterhouse Blue and Sherlock Holmes in The Hound Of The Baskervilles.
But his most defining role was as the Machiavellian Tory politician Francis Urquhart in the BBC's House Of Cards in 1990, based on the novel by Michael Dobbs. His character's famous one-liner - "You may very well think that; I couldn't possibly comment" - passed into political parlance.
The performance won him a best actor Bafta in 1991. He reprised the role in To Play The King (1993) and The Final Cut (1995), with Uruquhart scheming his way into the role of Prime Minister.
Richardson based the character on Richard III, the last role he played for the RSC.
In 2005, he said: "I have done 15 years of Shakespeare but without doubt Francis Urquhart has been the best opportunity for my reputation. The only trouble is getting rid of it. So many people seem to think that I am like him.
"I'm grateful for the part as it put me on the map. I was just an actor on television before House Of Cards came along but Francis has been rather difficult to escape from."
Michael Dobbs, author of House of Cards, said: "I am desperately sad. He is a man I admired immensely. He changed my life. He made a dream of mine a reality. And he did it in a way which transfixed millions of viewers.
"House of Cards was Ian Richardson. He made the character and brought the whole series to life.
"Even John Major's leadership campaign in 1990 came to a halt at 9pm on a Sunday night so that the whole campaign team could sit down and see what was happening.
"Urquhart was a wicked character but Richardson portrayed him in such a way that everybody loved it. In anybody else's hands, that role could have fallen flat on his face.
"I owe him a huge debt."
Richardson was last seen on TV at Christmas as the narrator - the Voice Of Death -in Sky One's Hogfather, which starred Sir David Jason.
The actor was awarded the CBE in the Queen's 1989 New Year's Honours. He is survived by his wife, Maroussia, and two sons.

Model's death remains a mystery
An initial autopsy has failed to find the cause of former top model Anna Nicole Smith's death.
But medical examiner Joseph Perper said he had not ruled out an overdose as a cause, and was waiting for the results of chemical analysis.
Ms Smith, 39, who fought a long battle for the estate of her late oil tycoon husband, died on Thursday.
Attention is now focusing on a battle between three men over the paternity of her five-month-old daughter Dannielynn.
'Medical puzzle'
Seminole Police Chief Charlie Tiger told journalists that there was "no evidence" to suggest that Ms Smith's death was the result of a crime.
But he said the investigation would remain open until Dr Perper, the Broward County medical examiner, completed his investigation.
Dr Perper said that could take from three to five weeks.
"It is a medical puzzle which we have to resolve to get a comprehensive picture of what happened," he said.
He said DNA samples had been taken from the fomer Playboy model.
"In every case in America, the examiner's office takes samples," he said.
Custody battle
Ms Smith died only five months after the birth of her daughter.
Three men are now claiming to be the father of the child, who is potentially heir to a multi-million-dollar fortune.
Ms Smith married Texas oil billionaire J Howard Marshall II in 1994, not long after being named Playboy's Playmate of the Year. She was 26 and he was 89.
He died 14 months later, setting the stage for a battle over his estate that pitted Ms Smith against Marshall's son.
The case has not yet been resolved, even though Marshall's son died last year.
Ms Smith's own son Daniel died in September, leaving her daughter as her only surviving offspring.
Both Ms Smith's lawyer and partner, Howard K Stern, and her ex-boyfriend Larry Birkhead say they are the father of the baby.
Ms Smith said Mr Stern was the father, but Mr Birkhead was demanding DNA testing even before Ms Smith died.
The husband of Zsa Zsa Gabor, Prince Frederick von Anhalt, also says he may be the father.
A judge has ordered that Ms Smith's body be preserved until a paternity hearing later this month.

Oscar-winning songwriter Ray Evans, known for a 60-year musical partnership with Jay Livingston, has died aged 92.
The pair produced themes to TV shows Bonanza and Mr Ed, and created songs for dozens of films, such as Whatever Will Be, Will Be (Que Sera, Sera).
Mike Alfonso, better known as Mike Awesome, was found dead on Saturday morning in the Tampa area according to those close to the family. He was 41.
More details should be forthcoming today.
Mike Awesome was one of the top foreign stars in FMW in Japan, who as a high-flying big man was made ECW champion on two occasions in 1999 and 2000. As champion, he signed with WCW, creating a situation that many feel ended up killing the title as Tazz from WWF was brought back to ECW to win the title, yet at the same time the title was jobbed in WWF.
He worked for a few months with WWF after the collapse of WCW, as well as with All Japan, but had not wrestled in some time.
It's thought to have been suicide.

Liam McLaughlin
I was at the same School as him, and my sister was a close friend of his  And he is one of my friends Brothers
Lance Bombardier Liam 'Paddy' McLaughlin, 21, of the 29 Commando Regiment Royal Artillery, died with his good friend and colleague Lance Bombardier Ross Clark, during a rocket attack in the Sangin area of Helmand province on Saturday.
Liam McLaughlin with friend and colleague Lance BombardierRoss Clark.
Liam, who was a pupil at Ripley St Thomas School in Lancaster and whose family lived near Aldcliffe until moving back to Ireland a few years ago, served all over the UK and abroad.
Deployed to Afghanistan in September 2006, Liam proved himself a versatile and highly effective soldier.
Speaking on behalf of the Regiment, his Commanding Officer, Lt Col Neil Wilson RA, said: "Paddy was a real character, that rare combination of natural verve and determined professionalism that is an absolute pleasure to be around.
"He was an extremely popular young soldier, and undoubtedly had a bright future ahead of him. He leaves a void that will be felt by the entire regiment, who are deeply shocked to a man.
"That he should be lost alongside team-member and friend, Lance Bombardier Ross Clark, is particularly saddening, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends."
Defence Secretary Des Browne said: "I was greatly saddened to hear about the deaths of L/Bdr Ross Clark and L/Bdr Paddy McLaughlin in Afghanistan on Saturday.
"By all accounts, they were clearly very professional, capable soldiers who were greatly respected by those who worked with them."
Liam's family did not wish to comment.
Headteacher of Ripley High School, Liz Nicholls, said staff at the school remember Liam with great affection and send their love and prayers to his family.
Pupils have been signing a book of remembrance and leaving floral tributes to Liam.

I once saw a John Inman perform in a play at the Tyneside Theatre just down the road from my flat
After the play he spoke to the audience about how things were. There was a leaky roof there and he went and got a bucket or some other container.
He will be sadly missed.

He was my fathers older brother
Still to early to say about funeral arrangements or even if I am expected down there. When my Aunt Coleen, Raymond's wife, died, I was not expected to turn up for that funeral and it was too far away for my parents to go down.
Will let you know anything when I do.
