Andrea Leadsom claimed being a mother would make her a better leader
Comes days after Theresa May revealed sadness at having no children
Home Secretary's supporters condemned the remarks as 'disgusting'
Mrs Leadsom has taken to Twitter to furiously deny the comments
Tory leadership contender Andrea Leadsom has sparked outrage after claiming she has the edge over rival Theresa May - because she is a mother.
Theresa May’s supporters last night reacted with indignation, condemning remarks as ‘disgusting’.

The Times ran the story and have released the audio of the interview and the journo was on BBC news this morning defending the article.
She did say it but also said along the lines of but i dont want this to be made into an issue thus ensuring she has an out.
So was she devious, naive or is this just Murdoch picking PMs again and supporting May?

I cannot see Murdoch particularly wanting May,he said he wanted the UK to leave the EU.
Anyway back to Leadsom, she volunteered her quote of being a Mother and having Children who will have children in the future.
She made the issue of it.
No doubt in my mind she is devious,I would not trust a thing she says or does and I think she is likely trying to deceive those who will votes in this, to believe she is someone positive, which in my view she is not.
If she really did not want this to become an issue, she should not have brought it up in the first place, all she is mad at is how it has been reported.
Frankly the audio recording sounds just the same as the actual report.
This Woman is not to be trusted in my opinion.

Well of course it is, what else could it be, all any of us can do on here is guess or give the opinions we have formed from what we have observed and heard to make up that opinion.
To not do so would eliminate the need for any threads at all and no reason to post either, so in effect no need for a forum either really.
What on earth kind of point is that you are making as to 'that's your guess'.

If following the money means tolerating or supporting the likes of Murdoch, then no way will I ever do that.
He should keep his nose out of our politics and also how the papers he owns reports too.
Either its a free press or its not, if he dictates what stand they should take on issues then it is controlled press.
Far better remove him form owning anything in the UK as to the media at all, that I would support 100%.
The opening post asked was this that Murdoch preferred May, I said I cannot see him wanting May.
What on earth is the issue that you have to raise so much as to what I said, for crying out loud.

The Times headlined its front-page lead story "Being a mother gives me edge on May - Leadsom."
It quoted the energy minister as saying Mrs May "possibly has nieces, nephews, lots of people. But I have children who are going to have children who will directly be part of what happens next".

As I often say on here, you hear of stories of children who've been beaten, burned, starved to death, who die in the most horrific way at the hands of their parents. Giving birth gives you no advantage over women who haven't.
That said, I've seen no proof that she made this claim and I'd be really surprised that a woman in her position would poison her own campaign in this way.

Then why set herself up by even mentioning she was a Mother and that her Children and Grandchildren have a stake in the future.
She was the one who brought Theresa May's name into the interview, not the reporters.
Then she used that to set herself aside from May because she has children and Theresa May does not.
She has simply been caught out for the probable but in my view certain deceit she is trying to bring to her ambitions.
The choices, in my opinion, between these 2 for PM are like either having all your top teeth pulled out or all your bottom teeth pulled out.
However that one is a Mother with Grandchildren is neither here nor there, or should it be, so why should she get away with raising that comparison, by any means,at all anyway.
Hopefully this has sealed her fate in this contest and deservedly negatively.
Jake.

Like leave supporters saying there should only be a brexit leader now and PM.
Does that not suit an agenda too then.
I cannot bear either of them but at least Theresa May has a stronger level of experience in govt, particularly with the EU as Home Secretary than Leadsom.
Desperate for May, I doubt many outside the Conservative party and a lot of its supporters are that to be honest and I certainly am not.

Meh. Someone with children has a slight advantage for me in terms of becoming the leader of a country, because someone with children is forced to think beyond the scope of their own lifetime in ways that a childless person will never have to.
I don't see anything wrong with that as an opinion, to be honest. I guess it might leave childless people feeling a little butthurt or whatever but to be frank, I'm sick of there being limits on what people can and can't say for fear of "causing offense" or "hurting feelings". It's boring.

You can hardly blame her team for using this to their advantage, if Andrea hasn't the common sense to keep her mouth shut on such issues

..that would only apply though or would only have a possibility of applying to what her 'visions' would be as a country leader if it was her motivation and not her own personal career move...but anyway it doesn't give her any advantage for me because it assumes or implies that those without children..(specifically females..)...don't see beyond themselves, which is totally ridiculous....
