Since there's only around two weeks left until it launches, thought we could discuss.
Will.
12-07-2016, 12:01 PM
Last year CBB launched with 2.22M.
Maxxie.
12-07-2016, 02:55 PM
I think maybe a little more?? Regular BB's had good promotion and has had good things said about it, like BB14 and the launch a few days after that got 3.2m, even in the summer.
Maxxie.
12-07-2016, 02:56 PM
And since this series is 300k behind that but has been getting similar reception, I'd say the launch could optimistically be around 2.9m maybe late 2.8s

From CBB8 onwards, this is the OFFICIAL averages of their series:
CBB8- 2.8m
CBB9- 2.6m
CBB10- 2.2m
CBB11- 2.8m
CBB12- 2.3m
CBB13- 3.1m
CBB14- 2.1m
CBB15- 3.1m
CBB16- 1.9m
CBB17- 2.8m
I've highlighted the SUMMER series as that is what it is best to compare this series to.
And here are the LAUNCH overnights and officials from CBB12 onwards (i ill put the officials in brackets)
CBB12- 2.83m (3.18m)
CBB13- 3.40m (3.69m)
CBB14- 2.36m (2.75m)
CBB15- 3.27m (3.64m)
CBB16- 2.22m (2.66m)
CBB17- 2.80m (3.30m)
Yet again, I have highlighted the SUMMER series as those are the series we will be comparing this series to. I personally don't think we will even go anywhere near even the summer series bar CBB16. I think the only comparable here would be CBB16 because the summer series have run out of steam, whereas the winter ones haven't.
I predict 1.8m overnight for tonight (2.2m official).
If we are to dissect further, CBB16 launched with almost 1m more than BB16 final finished, so if we do that, then this series will launch at 2.5m, which to me looks way too high.
Will.
28-07-2016, 10:38 AM
I think it will do well
BB-Germany
28-07-2016, 10:42 AM
Last year was a different situation. There was a 5 week break between BB16 and CBB16. They basically had to restart the whole campaign whereas this year with that little gap between the series, it should be easier to hold BB's figures with adding some extra for CBB.
*mazedsalv**
28-07-2016, 10:54 AM
I think it will do well
You reckon? Hmm, I'm not sure whether a 2 day break is better or the longer break is better? They both have pros and cons.
A positive is that BB17 ended 220k up on BB16, so the reveal of CBB starting would have been seen by more people, and another positive is that people are probably less exhausted with a shorter BB17 and a better received BB17 compared to a longer, badly received BB16.

Celebrity Big Brother: Live Launch: 2.24m (12.9%) excluding +1
Jake.
29-07-2016, 08:49 AM
Now, this has really surprised me given the lower launch figure for BB17. I believe the figure is higher than CBB16's and could be higher than CBB14's (which got 2.2 and 2.35 respectively I believe)
Will.
29-07-2016, 08:50 AM

2.36 (13.6%) million last night which is
Up 800k on the BBUK launch
Up 120k on last years launch
Most noticeably - down 400k on January, when last summer was down on January 2015 by 1 million.
Pretty strong I'd say. Last year dropped to 1.55m overnight (also a Froday) so hopefully it holds up better than that.

29-07-2016, 02:17 PM
pmsl you cite that as a reason but in typical fashion with C5 twists they closed it after a bloody week. Building an extension is for the long term of the franchise, not exclusively the civilian series, they can still axe that and use the house for CBB - makes no difference
Greg!
29-07-2016, 03:53 PM
There's like no proof they deliberately make cbb better than the normal one. Why would they do anything other than try and make both shows good?
Jack_
29-07-2016, 04:11 PM
There's mountains of proof, it's been evident from the day they acquired the show that they prefer CBB and thus put more effort into it
- They launched with bloody CBB
- They commissioned a summer CBB that no one wanted and underperforms most years but they keep flogging it, all at the expense of a shorter civilian version
- They generally put much more promo into CBB than they do civilian, i.e. Rylan announces everything on Twitter versus billboards/bus ads (it doesn't matter if they don't always do these, it's the fact that they ever did)
- CBB gets vote to save to protect their precious celebs while civilian gets the backwards system
- CBB gets weeknight live feed while civilian doesn't (there is literally no justifiable excuse for this cause I'm pretty sure the figures suck either way)
- CBB gets special live shows in cases of surprise evictions or twists, civilian does not. The chances of them doing an Alex and Sam style eviction with celebrities is next to none
- They cut the civilian series back to SEVEN weeks to accommodate their prized possession, and don't bother to extend it when it does well despite the fact CBB has been extended under the same circumstances
- There's way more updates for CBB than there is civilian
...and so on and so on. I'm sure there's multiple things I've forgotten
Even if you subscribe to the notion of 'well CBB's more successful so obvs they care about it more duh', you're missing the simple point that it is basic business to promote things that are underperforming and leave the things that are doing well already to survive on their own. If they put in the same amount of promotion for civilian as they have done for a few of their CBB's, who knows how much better it would be doing? But they don't, they just promote the version that's already established and leave the other one to flag which is absolutely moronic and something no other channel would do (see: ITV2 with Love Island). And they do this because they do not give a **** about civilian
People can bend over backwards trying to justify and rationalise their disdain towards the civilian series and swallow C5's Kool-Aid all they like, but the evidence is there for everyone to see and has been since 2011. I find it so disheartening when apparent fans of this show are willing to just roll over and let this **** show of a channel steamroll the original and better version, but that's what they want you to do so I guess all power to them :(
Maxxie.
29-07-2016, 04:52 PM
Well the most recent BB was probably most promoted since about 2010 but I'll give you that it wasn't really from c5 but it's had good media coverage and slightly higher ratings.

Disappointing drop last night.
It got 1.58m incl +1. Some would say that the final of Masterchef which got almost 5m dented it.
It was up 30k on last summer, but down 170k on CBB14 first show.

It won't be that high tonight with it being a Saturday. Mind you, with there being no eviction last night it might not have the "oh it's just a repeat" curse.

Optimistic! That would be great, but can't see it! Unless Materchef really did dent it a lot.
I guess the comparisons should be made for the last 2 summer series for a better outlook, so far:
CBB14:
Launch- 2.35m
1st Highlight show- 1.75m
CBB16:
Launch- 2.22m
1st Highlight show- 1.55m
CBB18:
Launch- 2.36m
1st Highlight Show- 1.58m
For Saturdays and Sundays 1st week the last 2 summer series:
CBB14:
Sat- 1.69m (this was that day when there was so many rows and was highlight advertised)
Sun- 1.90m
CBB16:
Sat- 910,000
Sunday- 1.17m
Pretty sure it will beat both of the CBB16 ratings in the next 2 days.
supertv247
30-07-2016, 05:24 PM
That was maybe a bit optimistic, but I was just thinking that Friday's don't usually rate that well anymore plus with it not being a live eviction or anything, people probably missed it without caring as much last night - as if it were a Saturday. I hope that's the case, and that tonight rates similarly with then the weeknight ratings being around 2m because I really hope it's way up on last summer.

Celebrity Big Brother: 1.35m (8.2%) inc +1
Not too terrible for a Saturday. Last years first Saturday got 910,000, so 50% up on that pretty much.
Highest summer Saturday since first week of CBB14.

1.5m incl +1.
Really expected more (like 1.7m), so I'm disappointed. It is up on the 1.17m that the first Sunday got last year though, but still disappointed. 1.6m tonight?
*mazedsalv**
01-08-2016, 10:13 AM
These were the Sunday ratings last year:
1.17m / 5.8%
1.31m / 5.8%
1.55m / 6.2%
1.25m / 7.2%
So last night comfortably beat 3 of the 4 from last year. And so far this series has been up on every ep:
2.36m vs 2.22m
1.58m vs 1.55m
1.35m vs 910k
1.5m vs 1.17m
Compared to last year then that's a strong rating.
*mazedsalv**
02-08-2016, 09:17 AM
Nice rise for CBB last night as it got 1.54m excl +1, which would make it around 1.7m incl +1, highest since launch. And for the 5th consecutive night, up on the previous year, which got 1.59m incl +1 on the first Monday of CBB16.

It's beating last summer and rivaling the Gary Busey year. And they spent only 20% of the fee that they spent for the Jan series, so this series must be a huge success for C5.

But like I said, they spent a record low this series.
The amount they paid them + being half shorter + Other House cost= CBB (this series anyway) was cheaper than BBUK.

Celebrity Big Brother - excluding +1 - 1.13m
Compared to last summer each Saturday got
910k, 1.04m, 940k, 820k all including +1 so quite an improvement especially for being on at 10:30pm
But last Saturday got 1.35m including +1 at 9pm so being later still hurt it
*mazedsalv**
08-08-2016, 10:00 AM
Last night got 1.33m excl +1, so I'd assume 1.5m with +1, it's not too bad. Sundays have seemed to have done pretty poorly this year for BB17 too.
It is already however higher than last years 2nd Sunday which got 1.31m incl +1. Which is good...
Now it's Monday, we should get the weekend ratings with +1 hopefully, already we have Fridays:
Eviction:
Celebrity Big Brother (9pm): 1.7m (9%)
We won't get Saturdays though because Broadcast won't publish that because they never publish ratings from 10pm onwards.

Friday 29th- 2.13m (1.58m)
Sat 30th- 2.00m (1.35m)

*mazedsalv**
09-08-2016, 11:01 AM
Bad for last night.... clearly dented by the Olympics which got 7m during BB was on.
9pm Reality Shows - inc. +1 channels
Eden (C4): 790,000 / 3.5% series low
Celebrity Big Brother (C5): 1.4m / 6.4%
Source: Broadcast
That 1.4m will most likely be ~1.8-1.9m. That's terrible for Eden.
It's a shame because it was a really good episode as well.

CBB continues to post solid ratings even up against Olympics which peaked at 8.1m at the time of the diving which aired at same time, despite CBB not being well received it's doing very well.
I'd predict tonight being at around 1.7m and then the same for the eviction.
Interesting to note, the last big Olympic clash which got the same sort of peak (around 8m), had CBB fall to 1.4m on Monday, so it seems that 200k more people were willing to watch BB last night. Built up an audience since Monday? Strange.
It beat both C4 and BBC2...

Celebrity Big Brother: Live Eviction (10.30pm): 1.37m (8.0%)

That should be around 1.6m for the first show and 1.5m for the 2nd. First show is down 100k from the first 2 evictions however the interview show was up on Grants last Friday despite a huge Olympic peak against it.

I think it's pretty amazing that 40% of the CBB audience can turn off when INMIY comes on but then almost all return after it for the eviction.

This is true, I didn't even glance at that rating, but yes, everyone came flooding back for the 2nd show.
Last Friday there was a bigger drop from 1st show to 2nd show for Grants, but the majority came back last night (tbh it was a MUCH better eviction last night!)

I don't think half the audience cared who went between Grant and James last week, but last night was a much bigger eviction especially when the two girls were left hanging for the second show. It was quite an unmissable eviction too

It's not surprising that it was low, that will be around 1m with +1. Having it on so late IMO is ridiculous. Saturdays are bad enough for BB in the last 17 year, to put it up against the Olympics (well it was inevitable) and Match of The Day on such a late slot, I actually expected less, especially considering CBB beat both Channel 4 and ITV.
Despite the later start and the competition, it was still up on last summers 3rd Saturday which got 940k.
Tonight... 1.6m? That's where I reckon it will stay to the end.

I like to think that the ratings aren't actually that good and that if we had an amazing cast and no olympics, it'd be up as one of the highest summer series nearer ~2.8m
Same applied to BB17 actually. It done great in the ratings, especially compared to last year which was weird since this year had much more competition. So if it didn't have the competition, it could've topped secrets and lies perhaps.

That can only be a good thing for the show's future.Because they have replaced BB's core audience (i.e. us) with really low class trash tv viewers which is fine for now but the problem will come when they move on at the drop of a hat and all leave to watch whatever the new low rent scumfest show is like Celebrity dog wanking or whatever it is that comes along. :joker: Then they will be up **** creek without a paddle or an audience.

Lol, I'm not surprised to see the show doing amazingly well ratings-wise. Despite the negative comments and people on here complaining 24/7, this series has been fantastic.
There's been lots of laughs, drama, and cringe-worthy moments to keep people satisfied. And viewers are obviously entertained by The Bear vs. The House drama, which is why they keep coming back for more and to see what's going to happen next.

1.36m excl +1, so will be around 1.5m incl +1. Looks like it's staying at that level at the moment against the Olymmpics which IMO is fantastic, Olympics got 7.5m on BBC1 and 7m on BBC2 last night.
Those 1.5m will end up being ~2m officials so there is no worry here at all.
CBB16 officially averaged 1.89m if people are wondering.

Very good considering the huge Olympic ratings and content over on BBC1. Everything else collapsed around the Olympics. First Dates couldn't even muster half a million! Currently still ahead of last summers series which at the end averaged 1.89m, so beating it so far by 240k. CBB14 officially averaged 2.14m! Extremely close.
But I reckon this series should average in the 2.1m at the end anyway, I don't feel it will drop to 2.04m or below.
I haven't watched since Siara's eviction. I cannot believe the ratings this series is getting

24-08-2016, 11:01 PM
So this series is averaging 600k viewers in catchup figures alone.
That's pretty amazing, and is nearly 30 percent of the whole audience!
It means every episode since last week will easily top 2 million again (except the 10:30pm ones)
That 1.83m could near 2.4 million and will help the series average for sure. Could pull it over CBB14.
*mazedsalv**

25-08-2016, 09:18 AM
That's nice considering CBB is known to flop in the last few days recently.
I don't think tomorrow's final will be anything special, probably around 1.7m, especially since it's a Friday. Will never reach the 2.5m launch got

Celebrity Big Brother: Live Final: 1.69m (10.0%)
Celebrity Big Brother's Bit on the Side: 0.71m (8.5%)

The ratings have been the same for the last 4 years, which is a good thing. Give or take 200k they always rate within the same rate as their predecessors did. If a series slips a bit, the next one can be up again and vice versa. The same with civilian BB if you don't consider BB16.

I'm just happy that BB17 managed to just beat BB15 too by 10k as well as surpassing BB12 and obviously BB16.
Would have been awful if the terrible BB15 had ended up with better ratings than BB17.
